Spokesman for the Epidemiology Committee in Jordan, Dr. Nazir Obaidat, revealed that in 2014, Jordan witnessed the death of a patient who was infected with a new virus - at the time - from Coronaviruses called the "Middle East Respiratory Syndrome" (MERS).

Obaidat said, in statements to a local radio, today, Sunday, that this virus came several years after the emergence of the "SARS" virus, noting that all these viruses belong to the "Corona family."

Obaidat stated that Jordan recorded at the time several injuries, and that the injured who died had been suffering from a chronic immune disease, stressing that the death was caused by the Coronavirus virus and not because of the "Covid 19 newcomer".

Obaidat confirmed that the death was caused by the Corona virus, but not the emerging virus present in the world.

Obaidat explained that the MERS disease appeared first in Jordan and formed a focus for it, and at that time the disease was not diagnosed, and samples of patients were preserved, and after several months cases appeared in Saudi Arabia, and it was identified as the MERS virus and provided a laboratory examination for it, By examining the samples, it was found that the virus in Jordan is the same as that found in Saudi Arabia.
