After that, Zhang Zhichao submitted an application for state compensation to Linyi Intermediate People's Court of Shandong Province, requesting a total of 7.889 million yuan for state compensation. 　　According to previous reports from Peng Mei News, in the early morning of January 10, 2005, a girl from Linshu County No. 2 Middle School in Shandong Province suddenly disappeared at school. Her body was found in the boys’ toilet a month later. After investigation by the Linshu County Public Security Bureau, Zhang Zhichao, who was under the age of 16, was found to have raped and killed the girl.

　　In March 2006, Zhang Zhichao was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape. In 2011, after the case had been settled for many years, Zhang Zhichao, when meeting with his mother Ma Yuping, suddenly claimed that he was tortured during the investigation of the case. After the lawyer's intervention, the investigation revealed that there were many doubts in the case, such as the lack of key evidence, the doubt about the time and place of the crime, the concealment of favorable evidence, and the contradiction of confession.

　　On November 16, 2017, the Supreme Law decided to retrial the case, and on December 5, 2019, the case was retrial in Zibo Intermediate Court. It is worth noting that during the trial, the prosecutor also made a proposal to the court that "there is never a suspect". On January 13, 2020, Zhao Zhichao was acquitted.

　　On the afternoon of June 1, Zhang Zhichao’s attorney submitted an application for state compensation to Linyi Intermediate People’s Court, requesting a total of 7.889 million yuan for state compensation, including 1.889 million yuan for personal freedom compensation and 6 million yuan for mental damage compensation.

　　On June 6, Zhang Zhichao’s attorney Yuan Feng told Peng Pai News that he received an SMS notification from China’s trial process information disclosure network at 11 am that Zhang Zhichao’s national compensation application Linyi Intermediate Court has been filed and the case number is (2020 ) Lu 13 law compensation No. 2. Yuan Feng said that Zhang Zhichao was detained on February 12, 2005 and was acquitted by the Shandong High Court on January 13, 2020. He was detained for 5449 days.
