Participate while at home Online disaster drill New Coronavirus June 7 4:08

Due to the effect of the new coronavirus, disaster prevention drills that are participatory by local residents have been canceled or postponed in various places according to the time of heavy rain. Against this backdrop, a new form of disaster prevention training was held online on the 6th that you can participate while staying at home.

Due to heavy rains, some local governments are conducting disaster prevention drills, but due to concerns about infection with the new coronavirus, there are many cases in which residents' training is suspended or postponed.

This disaster drill was organized by a disaster support organization in Fukuoka Prefecture and held online so that it could be done at home or at the workplace, with about 30 people living in Kyushu or the Kanto region participating.

In the beginning, the participants learned how to view the hazard map by using the “Overlapping Hazard Map” of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, assuming the risk of flood damage due to heavy rain.

After that, I investigated what risks such as sediment-related disasters and floods would occur in the area where I live, and had discussions among the participants.

Participants commented, "I don't anticipate flooding at home, but I know there is a risk of flooding in my commuting route, and I have to think about what I am doing while commuting."

Next, on the assumption of evacuation, it was confirmed whether the stockpiling was completed based on the checklist created by the organizer.

Participants commented, "When considering the new coronavirus, hygiene is a major issue, and masks, alcohol-related products, and simple toilets are also necessary."

A man in his 30s from Fukuoka Prefecture said, “It was fun to watch the hazard map on a computer while talking with everyone, just like playing a game. I want to share what I learned during training with my family.”

Taro Ezaki, the executive committee that hosted the training, said, "I think the use of online as a new type of training will increase in the future. It is because there is concern about infection with the new coronavirus, so it is because of the place where I live. We need training to identify disaster risks, and if there is a risk, I want them to evacuate."

JMA's evacuation point videos released

From the end of last month, the Meteorological Agency released a video explaining the risk of disasters caused by heavy rain and the points of evacuation so that you can learn about disaster prevention at home even if you can not participate in local disaster drills from the end of last month on the video posting site "YouTube". We are calling for utilization.

The Meteorological Agency has begun to release five videos in total, explaining the risks of disasters caused by heavy rain, the timing of evacuation, and evacuation methods.

In the video, we explain that there is a possibility that inundation damage may occur due to flooding of rivers near small and medium rivers and places lower than embankments, etc. In addition to moving to relatives' homes or shelters, it is possible to stay safe at home if the risk of flooding is low and well prepared.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said, "Even if you are unable to train due to the influence of the new coronavirus, please watch these videos and think about whether there is a disaster risk nearby."
