Ibaraki Airport International nickname is "Ibaraki International Airport", June 6, 4:48

Ibaraki Prefecture, which had been considering the new international nickname for Ibaraki Airport, including candidates with the letters “Tokyo”, decided to finally call it “Ibaraki International Airport”.

This is what Governor Oikawa of Ibaraki Prefecture made clear at a conference on the 5th.

Up until now, Ibaraki Prefecture has held a conference of experts with academic background and persons in charge of the travel industry to study new nicknames for Ibaraki Airport. At the experts' meeting, the domestic nickname was "Ibaraki Airport", but for overseas, there were 6 proposals such as those with the word "Tokyo" in it, and among them, the connection with Tokyo could be appealed to overseas. For this reason, I chose "Tokyo Ibaraki International Airport" and reported to the prefecture.

However, there were many opposing opinions that the word “Tokyo” could be misleading and that the pride of the people of Ibaraki prefecture could be compromised, so it was said that “Ibaraki International Airport” was simple and easy to understand. Was officially selected.

Governor Oikawa says, "There are many opinions against "Tokyo" and there is no merit of sticking to Tokyo even if the opposite is overwhelmed, so this nickname was given."
