  • The semi-final of season 9 of "The Voice" will be broadcast this Saturday at 9:05 pm on TF1.
  • The production (ITV Studios France) had to completely rethink its system: the live shows were to be held in May at the Palais des sports in Paris, they will finally take place in the studio and without audience.
  • "20 Minutes" tells you what this device consists of and how coaches and candidates have prepared themselves in these new conditions.

The Voice  will be silent for a little over a month. At the end of April, TF1 broadcast the last episode of the telecrochet knockout test, which was the last recorded broadcast of season 9. It should have been followed by the semi-final and the live final, but these did not 'did not take place for the reasons that we know (the sanitary measures imposed by a coronavirus pandemic in case you have not followed the news in recent weeks ...). The two meetings were therefore postponed indefinitely . "I don't want to say nonsense but I would rather see them at the start of the school year, September or October", ventured Marc Lavoine at the microphone of RTL mid-May. He lacked the intuition of the coach and singer because The Voice returns this Saturday at 9:05 p.m.

The production, ITV Studios France, had to organize this semi-final in a few weeks by completely rethinking the device envisaged at the start. For the first time, the live broadcasts were to take place in front of the crowd at the Palais des sports (Paris 15th). They will finally be held in a studio in the Saint-Denis plain, without audience.

"We were afraid it would be cold"

Several scenarios were considered and, from the start of the deconfinement, the teams sought the best possible solution. One thing was certain: it was out of the question to end the season with the services of candidates by videoconference as did the telecrochet American Idol . It was important not to wait too long before returning to the antenna. “It was not possible to gather spectators on set. This forced us to renew ourselves, to think of other ways of doing things, while providing a stage for the talents who got involved in the adventure, ”explains Pascal Guix, the artistic producer. In this case, the public will be materialized by a wall of faces attending the performances of the candidates via Zoom. "We were afraid that it would be cold, but the result is still very much alive," promises the producer.

The performances of the twelve finalists were recorded on Tuesday, under live conditions. They will be broadcast on Saturday evening. "We simply resorted to a montage to remove the installation and uninstallation time [of the scenography elements] between each candidate", underlines Pascal Guix.

This option was the most relevant to comply with health regulations. A direct from The Voice mobilizes some 450 people. “It was therefore necessary to avoid groupings as much as possible, the moments of rushes when the technicians jostled. There, to shoot these performances, there were no more than 150. ”

"Even if we stayed at home, it was very intense"

On the side of the twelve finalists, the preparation started at a distance. Toni, for example, chained the telephone exchanges with his coach Amel Bent and the rehearsals via Skype with his voice coach ... "I was rehearsing in my room, it was the only place where I could work. Even if we stayed at home, it was very intense, ”says the Ile-de-France.

Marc Lavoine, he had to deal with connection problems on Skype in the accompaniment of his talents. “Giving advice, instructions or directions when you are not with the person, it always creates a kind of additional pressure. Whereas, normally, the goal of coaching is precisely to remove pressures, ”he deplores.

If Marc Lavoine, Amel Bent and Pascal Obispo will be reunited on the set, the fourth coach will intervene remotely. Lara Fabian is currently confined to Canada… “We will miss her because she brings a lot to a stage, by her lexical field, her way of experiencing the performances, of coaching…”, laments the interpreter of Elle a les revolvers eyes .

Lara Fabian on the set of… the Quebec version of “The Voice”

The production however found the parade so that the singer is integrated as well as possible into the device. “It was a challenge. We worked with teams from La Voix in Quebec - the local version of The Voice . Lara went on set and had almost the same sensations as if she had been with us in France. We also established a connection to shoot a collegiate of coaches in tribute to Christophe ”, rejoices Pascal Guix.

Saturday evening, Nikos Aliagas will be present alongside the finalists on stage for the launch of the votes and the announcement of the results in real live. The producer warns that “it will be a very different program than usual, and somewhere, all the better. It is a small laboratory. Where will a magic formula emerge?
