Filmed by a passerby, the agony of the black father, George Floyd, moved the whole world and caused a climate of tension that the United States had not known since the 1960s and the civil rights movement.

Thousands of people of all origins marched on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York and on the streets of Washington, Seattle and Los Angeles, cities where the curfew was lifted. The indignation also crossed the American borders. In Vienna, a demonstration gathered around 50,000 people.

To illustrate this American fight against discrimination, the Mexican cartoonist Rodriguez chose to paint a black statue of liberty, with his fist raised.

Cartooning for Peace is an international network of cartoonists committed to promoting, through the universality of press cartoons, freedom of expression, human rights and mutual respect between populations of different cultures or beliefs.
