Uncharted is a cult adventure game for many gamers. Since its launch in 2007, the license has won over a large audience. And if millions of copies have been sold worldwide, it is in particular thanks to Nathan Drake. "This emblematic character of the game is much more human than the endless video game superheroes," explains journalist Jean-François Morisse, in the fourth episode of "GAMERS", Europe 1 Studio's new podcast on stories. secrets of video games. "He brings his personality, his charm to the game. He is credible, he has feelings, emotions, motivations ..."

But did you know that this hero, male alter ego of Lara Croft, was inspired by a man who is nothing like an adventurer? Nathan Drake's model is an actor: Johnny Knoxville. This American humorist is best known for his participation in a television program that made the heyday of the MTV channel in the early 2000s, Jackass . He's funny, disrespectful, daredevil and that's what appeals to Amy Henning, the creative director of the Naugthy Dog studio, who produces Uncharted. 

Marty McFly and Back to the Future

She will therefore offer her character traits to Nathan Drake and ... his physique of big dark brown. "She first thought of making him physically look like Marty McFly, the hero of Retour vers le futur ", specifies Jean-François Morisse. "She finally changed her mind"

For the script, however, Amy Henning draws from the classic repertoire, adventure novels that she read in her youth, but above all, she is inspired by the expeditions of a famous archaeologist: Indiana Jones.
