A teacher from a school in Décines-Charpieu, near Lyon, was indicted for sexual assault in March, just before confinement, and parents of students regret that they were not informed until the reopening of the establishment.

The teacher concerned was placed in pre-trial detention on March 11 as part of a judicial investigation which only concerns a victim born in 2010 at this stage of the investigations, the prosecution told AFP, confirming information from the regional daily newspaper Le Progrès .

The suspect is a CM1 teacher arrested on March 9 by the police in the school itself, after filing a complaint, a few days before the closure of the establishment due to sanitary confinement.

No information communicated to parents before this week

The arrest was made "in all discretion without the students being able to witness it", underlines the rectorate. Since then, no information had been communicated to the parents of students, until an administrative letter reached them in recent days, too late for some, according to remarks reported by the newspaper.

The rectorate indicates, however, that on March 12, during two meetings, the parents of students in the teacher's class, as well as the delegate parents, were informed of the situation.

Patrick Luyat, national education inspector in the district concerned, went to the scene on the day of the arrest and defends himself from having wanted to "cover up the case", which some parents accuse him of.

"We have nothing to hide in this case and we have hidden nothing"

"We have nothing to hide in this case and we have not hidden anything," he said on Friday to AFP, explaining that he had sent a letter to all the families after the deconfinement (May 25 , note) so that any questions from the parents do not remain unanswered.

"I do not send a writing if there is no one to answer questions behind. The schools were closed the following Monday, so there was no one left. I waited for the schools to reopen, ”he said.

On May 19, the day after the reopening, three meetings were held with the parents of the students of the class in which the teacher had practiced the previous year, in the presence of "listening professionals", further specifies the rectorate academy, and an information and support unit remains in place.
