  • A publication on Twitter this Thursday presented a photograph of George Floyd's autopsy report on which we could see that the deceased had contracted the Covid-19.
  • Indeed, according to the findings of the forensic scientist from Hennepin County (Minnesota), George Floyd has indeed tested positive for the coronavirus.
  • However, the virus is not responsible for the death of this 46-year-old American.

Thursday morning, the Twitter account @tprincedelamour, well known for relaying a lot of information, published a photo of a page of George Floyd's autopsy report accompanied by the following message: "Alert! The autopsy of #GeorgeFloyd reveals that he had # Covid19 in addition to being positive for Fentanyl, Norfentanyl, methamphetamine, phenylethanol and cannabis. So many elements that could play in favor of the police charged with intentional homicide! " 20 Minutes wanted to verify this information.

FAKE OFF

Indeed, as revealed by the very serious Time in the United States, the office of the forensic doctor of Hennepin County (Minnesota) published the complete autopsy report of George Floyd with the agreement of the family of the deceased and from his lawyer. It is also available online. Reading this 20-page document, we see that the man arrested by the four Minneapolis police officers tested positive for Covid-19 on May 26, the day after his death.

The expert recalls that the virus can remain in the body for several weeks and specifies that George Floyd was probably asymptomatic: "As the positivity of the PCR test for 2019-nCoV can persist for weeks after the appearance and resolution of the a clinical disease, the result of the autopsy most likely reflects an asymptomatic but persistent positivity due to a previous infection ”.

Finally, the medical examiner explains that, according to his observations, the presence of the new coronavirus in the body of George Floyd does not represent a direct factor that could explain the death of the latter. The autopsy also revealed that the victim's lungs appeared healthy; however, he suffered from arteriosclerosis and high blood pressure.

Floyd's family performs an independent autopsy

Preliminary results of the official autopsy conducted by the authorities suggested that the death of George Floyd may have been caused by a combination of various factors (knee pressure combined with possible alcohol or psychotropic use and a history) health). According to forensic experts, there was "no evidence supporting a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation". However, the results of a second autopsy, independent of this one and carried out at the request of the family of George Floyd, came to contradict these conclusions. On Monday, the family's lawyer announced that George Floyd had died of "asphyxiation by prolonged pressure".

In the wake of these new revelations, the forensic scientist who conducted the official examinations revised his version, this time referring to a death "by homicide" due to "cardiac and pulmonary arrest" under "the combined effect of arrest and immobilization "on his neck. On Wednesday, the prosecutor in charge of the file redefined the facts as intentional homicide, charging the police behind the death of George Floyd for "unpremeditated murder" and the three other agents present at the scene of the drama for complicity. Constable Derek Chauvin, imprisoned at the end of May and dismissed from the police like his three colleagues, therefore faces a maximum sentence of 40 years' imprisonment for this count, according to the indictment filed in court.
