The departure last night of Samantha and Maialen has been more than a hard blow for the followers of the program, it has been the robbery of the dreamed final.

The confinement imposed by the state of alarm for the coronavirus that led to the closure of the Academy and, therefore, to send all the triumphs home, did not kill OT 2020 , far from it, made it stronger in its channels, in their 'other' tools to stay alive. The contestants continued with their classes, adapted and soaked up the use of social networks, kept working, dreaming of going back one day and they returned. They returned to four weeks of a final that will be held next Wednesday and which has a clear favorite, the great favorite from practically the beginning of this edition, Nía . Since Amaia's OT (not that much has happened) a final did not have such a clear winner). The controversy is not about who will win OT 2020 , the controversy is why the followers of OT 2020 have been left without their dream ending.

The final dream that will never be

And I talk about Samantha in the first place because what she is never going to be able to steal is that the weight of this edition has been carried by her from start to finish.

Samantha, a queen without a crown

After the first few weeks of controversy, warnings and difficult to put out fires, it was Samantha who bore the responsibility of being the star of OT 2020 . Not only for having evolved in an incredible way musically speaking, but because without it the Academy, the finery and the day-to-day could have gone black without any trauma. Along with Flavio (and I refuse to talk about folders, scrolls and crushes because they are much more), Samantha has proven to be the contestant with the most personality, the most charisma and the clearest ideas of all those who entered the six months ago Academy . Without it, OT 2020 would have been a glander; Without it, OT 2020 would have lacked all the spark; Without it, the outrage that was unleashed last night for staying at the gates of the final, would not have existed. His time in OT 2020 has been like a long distance race. It started as one of the weakest and has ended up being one of the strongest. To be queen you do not need a crown and Samantha has taken the throne of OT 2020 although they do not crown her.

Like Anaju , who was finally given a theme last night to show off, Nana del Mediterráneo , by Cordovan María José Llergo , Samantha has adapted to all the styles they have been giving her without complaining, without questioning and trying to learn from each one of them. He has therefore demonstrated great versatility and adaptability, while others, without ever detracting from everyone's work, have had the easiest start with songs that were much better suited to their style, with songs that helped them show off week after week.

His performance last night Something's Got A Hold On Me by Etta James was not only one of the best performances of the gala and OT 2020 but showed that despite the roadblocks, despite not playing on many occasions with the same shuffles, has known how to get as much juice as possible to the teachings of the Academy . Six months have passed from the first performances to yesterday, six months in which a perfect artist has been molded, with charisma, personality, character, strength and also with voice, although in the times of the voice, the tuning and all those things are increasingly in the background.

Artist is much more than a voice and Samantha has made it clear. Who was the one who in the galas threw more than one cape to a Roberto Leal to whom the contestants have made it more than difficult? Who entered the game, who took the claw, who pushed with the presenter of some finery in which the others hid behind the mask of shame and on more than one occasion of pasotism? Samantha . Who knew how to defend their work in front of some jurors who wanted to get rid of it too quickly? Samantha. Who, in addition to being an artist, has proven to be for each and every one of your colleagues? Samantha. What does Hugo do in the final and Samantha doesn't? Hala, I already said it! It didn't matter if they dressed her like Danonino, like last night, with strawberry shortcake, at Easter cabaret, or that she had to act almost in a wheelchair. Samantha made everything seem to fit her. Because the wardrobe in this edition is to eat separately. Mother of God, what style!

Samantha should have been in the final. I would not have won because the victory will be Nia's, but it would have been the zenith of one of the best contestants of this edition. And the same can be said of Maialen , the girl with whom Murphy's law always complies, who came as a caterpillar and ended up being a butterfly. If you have to talk about evolution, you have to talk about Maialen . He came with his little voice, his shy, hidden, shameful character and now shines more than anyone. What does Hugo do in the final and Maialen does not? Hala, I already said it! Because the final dream was the final of Nía, Samantha , Anaju , Maialen , Flavio and Eva . Yes, Hugo does it and he did it in the confinement and he still thinks about it with his singles, but one thing is what you want him to be outside and another thing is the final of OT 2020 .

The error was not last night because of the four nominees, Anaju , Samantha , Maialen and Flavio , there could only be two, the error was last week when it seemed that the product was thought more than the essence. Yes, OT is the springboard to hunt talents, to create new golden hens, but when there is so much talk about evolution, effort, improvement, voice, tuning, versatility, the final should have those who have gone from less to more. A good listener, few words are enough.

Anaju and Flavio, finalists

Anaju and Flavio stayed . They deserved it. Anaju's performance last night was a clear example that when they are placed where they should be, the notable becomes a license plate. Anaju's voice is a ballad voice, a sweet voice, a slow, calm voice ... Her performance last night of Nana del Mediterráneo, accompanied on piano by Manu Guix, was "excellent". "What you have done is very strong. It should be mandatory for all the contestants to do a ballad (...) It makes me angry that what you have done today you have not been able to do before, " said Nina. There is nothing more to say.

It's those "variables" that Nina also talked about that the contestants can't control. And although Anaju believed she was in a totally different register than she is used to, the result was that it is the register she needed. "A good voice is lucky, but singing well is an art, and today you have graduated cum laude as an artist with capital letters," Javier Llanos valued him. Impossible to agree more.

And Flavio? Flavio is the survivor of this edition, the 'rare' from OT 2020 , the discordant note. It has never been saved by either the jury or the teachers. If he has reached the final it is because he has the support of many followers of the program and he has earned it. Flavio is indeed the finalist in the audience. They have not tired of repeating professors and sworn that their voice does not deserve it OT 2020 , but they have not been able to value their fair measure either. The fact that Flavio does not comply with the canons of, say, the artist they are looking for has been hindering the entire contest. Flavio is Flavio and as much as he is told that it has to be this way or that , he will continue to be Flavio . Is it so difficult to take out what you already have and stop transforming yourself? Being in the final for the public means that the public loves him as he is.

"Someone like you gives a very different profile. Your voice is unique. Although you lacked a little energy and you were too worried about the piano during your performance, you have saved it quite well", Natalia Jiménez valued . Has the jury considered that it may not need that energy that is so necessary in other artists? Flavio's charm is that aura of mystery that surrounds him, that parsimony well understood, that expiring peace, that voice so peculiar and so different, that Flavio . No need to force. I did not see that he lacked energy in his performance last night, I saw that Flavio was Flavio sitting at a piano, as he has been in every performance. Perhaps, if instead of looking for someone to conform to what others want they focused on their exceptional differences, Flavio should not have played it so many times.

I was very sorry for the farewell of Samantha and Maialen , they deserved to be in the final, a shadowed final, a stolen final, a final that has pissed off those who keep OT 2020 in the pillory every day. I am left with the consolation that it does not take OT to win, and Samantha and Maialen have many ballots to get it. OT 2020 will be remembered for many things, but it will also be remembered for an unfair semifinal and for a final in which it seems that all the fish is already sold.
