Cans, glass bottles, packaging, trash. Last weekend, marked by a massive outflow of residents and a large crowd in public spaces, a sharp increase in waste abandoned in the street was observed in Lyon and in various places in the metropolis. Impressive dirt immortalized Sunday morning by a local who shared pictures of the banks of the Rhône littered with waste on social networks, accompanied by the legend "Your world is worse than the previous one in fact". His images, unflattering for Lyon and its inhabitants, were shared and denounced in the process by thousands of Internet users.

In response to these behaviors, the Métropole de Lyon announced this Tuesday the strengthening of cleaning operations on the banks of the Rhône and in various public spaces. “I asked for a strengthening of our system both in terms of the number of agents and the increase in the number of bins and containers available in these places. But the multiplication of means to ensure the cleanliness of our spaces should not make us forget the necessary individual responsibility of each. I therefore call on residents to respect the public spaces available to them, "said the President of the Metropolis in a press release.

6 tonnes of waste, a record

According to him, Pentecost was marked by a record collection of 6 tonnes of waste on the banks of the Rhône, compared to 4 tonnes in normal weekends. "No less than 1,000 bags of waste were recovered by the agents," add the services, which had set up additional bags at the foot of each waste basket in anticipation of the influx of expected walkers. This device was not enough to encourage the public to dispose of its litter properly, eight additional bins of 600 liters each must be installed soon around the stands.

A few days ago, the authorities had already appealed to the civic-mindedness of the inhabitants of Lyon after having noted a proliferation of masks thrown in the street.
