  • A man, who was traveling on a buggy, was arrested during the night of Monday to Tuesday in Saint-Herblain.
  • Another arrest after police seem to be raising their voice about urban rodeos.

The phenomenon is not new in the region but seems to have intensified with the good weather and the period of deconfinement. In one week, several police interventions linked to urban rodeos took place in the Nantes conurbation. The last one took place in the night from Monday to Tuesday, shortly after midnight, in Saint-Herblain.

"Many buggy and quad type vehicles traveling at high speed and overtaking all other users on their way" were spotted by BAC police, reports the police. After a chase, a 31-year-old boy, who was riding a buggy, was caught. He was placed in police custody and will be summoned to court in May 2021.

An operation at La Bottière and Bellevue

According to the police, already last week, two stolen “big displacement” motorcycles were seized in a cellar of a Dervallières building. The day before, a 16-year-old suspect already known for similar acts was arrested after having been seen wheeling (lifting his front wheel) on a 50 cc scooter. He will have to explain himself in court in September. Finally, on Wednesday, a "vast anti-rodeo operation" carried out in the Bottière and Bellevue districts led to the arrest of two people, for rodeo, refusal to comply and concealing false plaques. Four scooters had been removed.

Last Monday, Interior Minister Christophe Castaner announced the preparation of a "new action plan" against the practice. Since the 2018 law, whose effects must be assessed, the urban rodeo is an offense punishable by two years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros.
