An Egyptian art collector residing in Kuwait has returned a rare Kuwaiti artwork that was stolen during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait 30 years ago. The architect of the paintings, Eng. Amr Haikal, handed over the painting of the “Khumari dance” to the late Kuwaiti sculptor Issa Saqr, to the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters in Kuwait after he confirmed that it was the original missing painting that was drawn by the artist in 1968. According to the Kuwaiti newspaper “Al-Qabas”.
Amr Haykal bought the painting by chance from one of the popular markets in Kuwait, without having any idea about its importance and its historical value for Kuwait, and when Haykal decided to sell the painting he presented it to the owner of one of the galleries that he deals with to inform the owner of the gallery of his doubts about this painting It is similar to a famous Kuwaiti artwork, which was stolen years ago. Heikal had no other choice but to quickly contact the officials of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, and inform them about the painting that was confirmed after examining it as the missing plate. The Council honored Haykal in the presence of the Secretary General Kamel Al-Abdul Jalil and the son of the late artist Omar Issa Saqr.
