Nearly 90% of high school students were not refused to buy cigarettes

  (Xinhua Liu Huan) Yesterday is the 33rd World No Tobacco Day. The China Center for Disease Control and Prevention released the 2019 Chinese Middle School Tobacco Survey. The results show that the proportion of junior high school students who try to smoke cigarettes and now smoke cigarettes are 12.9% and 3.9%, respectively. Compared with 2014, the use rate of e-cigarettes increased from 1.2% in 2014 to 2.7%. 8.5% of junior high school students and 13.0% of ordinary high school students can see teachers smoking in the school almost every day. The percentages that were not rejected because of age when buying cigarettes last time were: 76.5% of junior high school students, 87.6% of ordinary high school students, and 87.6% of vocational school students.

  A total of 290,000 students from 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) participated in the survey. The proportion of attempted smoking shows that ordinary high school students are 21.6% and vocational school students are 30.3%; now the proportion of smoking cigarettes is 5.6% for ordinary high school students and 14.7% for vocational school students; Students are 2.2% and vocational school students are 4.5%.

  In terms of exposure to second-hand smoke, junior high school, general high school and vocational school students have seen people smoking at home, indoor public places, outdoor public places or public transportation in the past 7 days as high as 63.2%, 72.0% and 67.3%. Teachers still smoke on campus. The proportion of students who see teachers smoking almost every day in the school is: 8.5% of junior high school students, 13.0% of ordinary high school students, and 9.4% of vocational school students.

  Regarding the acquisition and price of tobacco products, the proportions that were not rejected because of age when purchasing cigarettes last time were: 76.5% of junior high school students, 87.6% of ordinary high school students, and 87.6% of vocational school students.
