Alberto Zangrillo, an Italian doctor popularly known as Berlusconi's doctor, has stated that the Covid-19 disease no longer exists in Italy and that it is time to stop uselessly "terrorizing" people , which has led to numerous criticisms of authorities and other specialists.

"In reality, the virus no longer exists clinically in Italy," RAI Zangrillo, director of the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, said on television on Sunday.

"The tests carried out in the last ten days show an absolutely infinitesimal viral load (...) compared to those carried out a month or two ago. It is time to stop terrorizing the country, " added the doctor.

The new coronavirus has caused some 33,500 deaths in three months in Italy, which was originally the epicenter of the disease in Europe, following its appearance in China in late 2019.

Northern Italy, especially Lombardy -of which Milan is the capital- concentrated the majority of cases in the transalpine country. "While waiting for scientific evidence to support the thesis of the disappearance of the virus, I invite those who declare themselves convinced by this thesis not to sow doubt among Italians, " the deputy secretary of the Ministry of Health, Sandra Zampa, wrote on Twitter, in response to Zangrillo.

The head of the National Health Council, Franco Locatelli, has declared himself "puzzled" by Zangrillo's words . "It is enough to observe the number of new positive cases confirmed every day to confirm the persistent circulation in Italy of the new coronavirus," he said.

The Italian authorities record 300 to 500 new infections daily. On Sunday, coinciding with Zangrillo's words, 355 new cases were registered, the majority in Lombardy.

A life with Berlusconi

Natural from Genoa, 62 years old, concerned about his appearance, with decision-making capacity and highly appreciated on a professional level. But the last name Zangrillo will always be linked to Silvio Berlusconi, the patient he has treated for 30 years. It is your personal doctor. He met him through Luigi Verzè, founder of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, the center now run by this doctor who considers the coronavirus to be eradicated in Italy.

Zangrillo's statements, based on the investigation of the virologist Massimo Clementi, fundamental pillar of the San Raffaele, and with whom he is deeply connected, have caused surprise in many of those who know the professional career of the doctor , who was born on 13 April 1958, and graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Universidad degli Studi in Milan in 1983. Later he specialized in Anesthesia and resuscitation. From there he began a career that has led him to travel around the world: today he is the author of more than 500 publications. And for some time, one of the main doctors of the San Raffaele, responsible for the General Anesthesia and Resuscitation and Cardio-thoracic-vascular Operational Unit.

His rise in the world of medicine began at the largest private healthcare facility in Italy. In this area, thanks to his important medical achievements, he has achieved great visibility in the scientific community . A visibility that has increased exponentially at the media level due to its link with Silvio Berlusconi. Zangrillo has always been by his side in the most dramatic moments, according to the Corriere della Sera . On December 13, 2009, when the then premiere was wounded by the statuette that Massimo Tartaglia released. Or on June 14, 2016, when the leader of Forza Italia was admitted to the San Raffaele to undergo a very delicate cardiac intervention.

The professor, unlike other characters close to Berlusconi, has always been faithful to the white coat, that is, he has not departed from his profession. He has not even entered politics , where his younger brother Paolo was an elected candidate for the Forza Italia party.
