Gifu Shirakawa-go is closed. 20% or less of business restart of restaurants and accommodation facilities is June 16 at 16:48

It was closed for the first time in about a month in Shirakawa-go, a world heritage site in Shirakawa-mura, Gifu Prefecture, which had been closed in principle due to the new coronavirus. Shirakawa Village calls for tourism after taking measures to prevent infection.

From the 2nd to the 31st of last month, the village was closed in principle to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus in the area of the Shirakawa village, which is registered as a World Heritage Site, and guards on the road leading to the village. We called for refraining from sightseeing by arranging and placing signs.

Since the government's emergency declaration was completely lifted on the 25th of last month, the village decided to accept tourists again, and on the 1st, the official removed the sign calling for refraining from tourism and replaced it with a mask. We have installed signboards that encourage people to enjoy sightseeing after taking measures such as wearing clothes to prevent infection.

However, there are strong concerns about infections, and according to the local tourism association, less than 20% of the restaurants and accommodation facilities have resumed business on a single day.

An employee in his 50s at the souvenir shop who resumed business said, "I'm worried about whether more customers will come to secure sales in the future."

Mr. Kei Hashiwaki of the Shirakawa-mura Tourism Promotion Division said, "I would like to provide hospitality while taking measures to prevent infection."
