According to the WHO, tobacco use is the single most important cause of preventable deaths globally, given that it is currently killing one in ten adults around the world.

According to the WHO, the global tobacco epidemic kills nearly 6 million people annually, including more than 600,000 non-smokers who die due to second-hand smoke inhalation. If we do not take the necessary measures, this epidemic will kill more than 8 million people annually until 2030. 80% of these preventable deaths will be recorded among people living in low and middle income countries.

The ultimate goal of World No Tobacco Day is to contribute to protecting current and future generations from these devastating health consequences, but also from the social, environmental and economic calamities of tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke.
