Remember the protagonist of the "Must Let Him Live" story? He is discharged home!

"Let him live, be sure to let him live!"

During the epidemic, Liaoning, Henan, and Fujian 3 supported the Hubei Medical Team and the medical staff of Wuhan University People's Hospital to take care of the heart-warming story of Xiaowei (a pseudonym) in the critically ill patients of Wuhan New Coronary Pneumonia. .

On May 29, Xiaowei, who returned home from the People's Hospital of Wuhan University for nearly a week, reported safety to those who cared about him through WeChat. "I'm fine. I'm working hard to recover and return to a normal life as soon as possible."

He was hospitalized for 109 days and he died nine times

May 24 was the day Xiao Wei was discharged home.

"I stayed in the hospital for 109 days and was finally discharged today! The virus is ruthless and people are sentimental! Thank you to all the medical staff who treated me, you are all benefactors, thank you! Also thank all the friends who care and encourage me, I work hard to recover, very It will be back soon. "He wrote in the WeChat circle of friends.

Anyone who knows Xiaowei knows how difficult this day is. The 35-year-old had a high fever of 39 ° C on January 26. He was diagnosed with infection on February 6 and was admitted to the New Coronary Pneumonia 3 Ward in the Eastern Hospital of Wuhan University People's Hospital.

His condition is developing rapidly. On February 12, there was an invasive ventilator; one day later, his condition suddenly deteriorated, respiratory failure occurred, and his life was suspended.

The Liaoning Intensive Care Medical Team, which has taken over Ward 3, decided after emergency evaluation that it must be supported by Xiaowei with Extracorporeal Membrane Pulmonary Oxygenation (ECMO). In view of the critical condition of Xiaowei, the risk of transferring to the operating room and then to ECMO is extremely high, and it is necessary to perform surgery to build a vascular access beside the bed.

Recalling the operation process, Deng Hongping, director of the Department of Vascular Surgery of the People ’s Hospital of Wuhan University, still felt thrilled: there was no special blade or special lamp for the operating room in the isolation ward. When the fog, sweat and even snot blocked the sight, only a pair of scissors was used to complete the separation of the femoral artery and femoral vein with the "blind exercise" of the hand and touch.

After successfully connecting to ECMO, Xiaowei's blood oxygen saturation increased to more than 95%, successfully surpassing a level.

ECMO allowed Xiaowei's collapsed lungs to rest temporarily. But whether it can go offline smoothly is another extremely dangerous and difficult barrier.

"ECMO patients are offline for 24 hours without blinking. The doctor let go a little and the person is gone." The Liaoning Medical Team specially formed the ECMO team for Xiaowei. The inspection situation and instrument parameters are discussed by medical staff to discuss the next steps.

Xiaowei was hospitalized and restored by the People's Hospital of Wuhan University

After treatment, Xiaowei turned negative in early March, which means that his new coronary pneumonia was cured. On March 9, after a full 25 days on the machine, Xiaowei withdrew ECMO, and various physical indicators gradually improved.

Most importantly, he woke up after losing consciousness for more than 20 days. When the nurse took the phone to his ear to help him talk to his wife and showed him a picture of his child, he shed tears.

On March 25, the medical teams of Liaoning and Henan, who had been fighting with Xiaowei for nearly 50 days, were withdrawn. During the handover, Jia Jia, his doctor in charge and a member of the Liaoning Intensive Care Team, repeatedly asked, "Let him live, be sure to let him live." This video has since swept the screen and attracted countless tears.

Relay race against Grim Reaper

If ECMO is equivalent to a patient in a wheelchair, the ventilator for more than 50 days is like the crutches that assist Xiaowei. How to make Xiaowei throw away the "crutch" and breathe spontaneously is the biggest challenge facing the medical team.

With the efforts of the ICU team in the East Campus of the People's Hospital of Wuhan University, Xiaowei's infection was gradually controlled. On April 1, he tried to get out of the ventilator briefly. The first time he went offline, he said in his throat, "Wife, I love you!" On April 3, Xiaowei completely got out of the ventilator and resumed spontaneous breathing.

Previously, Xiaowei had been communicating with typing and medical staff through gestures. After going offline, he was finally able to talk directly with the medical staff and his family.

Due to the long time of using ECMO, Xiaowei could not move at all on the hospital bed for 13 days, so there was a pressure ulcer with a large area on the sacral tail. The East Hospital District has established a pressure ulcer care team. Two national wound stoma therapists lead other nurses to complete the daily pressure ulcer care. After the pressure ulcer care team conducted meticulous dressing change, debridement, and applying VSD (artificial skin negative pressure drainage) for him, Xiaowei's pressure ulcers slowly began to heal.

On April 30, with the overall closure of the Eastern Hospital, Xiaowei transferred to the headquarter of the People's Hospital of Wuhan University for centralized treatment together with 17 critically ill patients who had recovered from the new coronary pneumonia but could not be discharged due to the underlying disease. The hospital specializes in a critical care area and a one-story buffer area, and deploys multidisciplinary experts in breathing, critical care, rehabilitation, and a nursing team of nearly one hundred people to take care of them.

Under careful medical care, Xiaowei recovered quickly. On May 8th, nearly three months after lying in bed, he got out of bed and stood for the first time; on the 10th, he started walking exercises with the help of a nurse. On the 17th, he was able to walk without assistance and his weight returned to more than 120 kg.

On May 24, after a comprehensive examination and physical evaluation, and again reviewing that the nucleic acid was still negative, Xiaowei was discharged home.

Family reunion

Xiao Wei's wife Li Jin (pseudonym) has been running for him since he was admitted to the hospital. Together with the medical staff, she experienced an undefeated battle "epidemic" side by side.

"(I) keep looking for news every day, watching news related to critical illness, and calling him twice a day to ask about his condition." Li Jin recalled, "I will save him no matter what the situation, even if it goes bankrupt. Because as long as He is here, our home is a complete home. "

Today, Li Jin and his more than one year old boy are finally waiting to reunite with Xiaowei. That complete home is back.

At noon on May 29, Xiaowei said through WeChat that his current task at home is basic exercise plus rest. Every time after the exercise, "lie down and take oxygen to rest. (Because) there are occasional hypoxic coughs."

At present, Xiaowei is still in a two-week home isolation period. His leg muscles have not fully recovered, and his exercise capacity is limited. He exercises at home every day according to the rehabilitation exercises taught by doctors. In addition, it takes a long time to repair his damaged lungs. Now he takes a deep breathing exercise and coughs easily. Li Jin bought an oxygen generator online.

Taking care of Xiaowei and the children, Li Jin carried the whole family alone. "Our family's biggest wish now is to live a safe life every day." Recently, she is inquiring about the rehabilitation institutions of the hospital near her home, wanting to restore Xiaowei's normal life ability through regular rehabilitation treatment as soon as possible. Taking into account her special circumstances, Li Jin's work unit has also given her a lot of human care.

"The most grateful thing is the country, and all the medical staff who have treated Xiaowei." Li Jin said emotionally that Xiaowei's treatment costs are free of charge by the state. Caring. "When Xiaowei is fully recovered, our family must thank these benefactors."

Live on! Get better!

Pay tribute to everyone in this life-saving battle!
