  • The city of Lyon is gradually reopening its crèches since the start of deconfinement, with 330 places currently available and then 590 from June 8.
  • 20 Minutes was able to spend two hours Tuesday in the Joliot Curie crèche (Lyon 5th) in order to observe the precautions taken by the staff, who were equipped all day with an FFP2 mask.
  • If the binding wearing of this mask and the enormous amount of cleaning make the new life of auxiliaries delicate, the children do not seem to be affected in any way.

Identity photos of all staff taken with and without a mask. This is one of the pretty tips chosen by the Joliot Curie municipal crèche (Lyon 5th) to play down its reopening since May 13. Only a dozen children aged 0 to 3 can be accommodated there currently, compared to fifty before the coronavirus pandemic. Grouped in a single section of the establishment, and most often in the outdoor courtyard, the toddlers quickly found their bearings after two months of confinement.

"Children adapt to everything," says Natacha Moulin, director of this crèche in Lyon, which will be able to double its attendance from June 8. We are used to the fact that anxieties come much more from parents. Many of them were especially afraid of putting their child in a square. If the first images of deconfinement in schools have indeed marked the spirits, Lyon has not at all considered this model for the little ones. "We defended the fact that distancing was impossible," says Claire Topenot, director of childhood at the City of Lyon. You really must never have seen how the staff work in a crèche to think about this device. "

"The parents were a little chilly on the first day"

During play time, reading time or meals, contact is therefore as frequent as before the appearance of the Covid-19, whether between children or between children and the crèche staff. "The parents were a little chilly the first day and it also reassured them to learn that we could cuddle their children as before," says Marie-Anne Lahaye, educator at Joliot Curie.

Natacha Moulin is formal: "Our work is not the same at present, but children's habits are not disturbed in any way". Except for an additional hand wash on arrival at the crèche and a midday meal and a snack prepared by their parents and not at the crèche, nothing has really changed.

Headache caused by the FFP2 mask

The term "disinfect", on the other hand, comes up in most exchanges between the six permanent staff of the crèche, who have accumulated up to 16 hours of cleaning per day since recovery. Each bed rung, each puzzle piece is thoroughly cleaned with wipes, boxes make it possible to determine a rotation of the toys according to the days of the week, and these are put in the dishwasher just after their use.

The usual reception (from 7 to 19 hours) has been reduced from 8 to 18 hours, Claire Topenot being aware of the "exhausting" period for the staff of the 30 municipal crèches currently open (48 from 8 June). Especially with the main constraint the imposing FFP2 mask to wear all day. "We are very hot there and it very often gives us a headache at the end of the day. One has the impression that one will never really get used to it, ”testify several assistants of the Joliot-Curie crèche.

"A distancing would be violent to live for children"

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been only two suspected coronaviruses for staff at crèches in Lyon and the tests have been negative. “I chose this FFP2 mask because I want our teams to be protected as well as possible. Some cities have chosen surgical masks or even do without masks because they fear that children will be afraid. Finding oneself facing these masks covering a large part of the face does not seem to disturb the children we met on Tuesday.

“A little girl made us laugh while scolding her father who arrived without a mask in the nursery. She told him he could catch the virus, ”laughs Marie-Anne Lahaye. "As long as they feel that the adults do not doubt, they are comfortable, no matter if we wear a mask or a bizarre bee costume," laughs Natacha Moulin. Only a distance imposed between them or with us would be violent to live for children. They climb on top of it all the time, so families who want to distance themselves from their children have no choice but to keep them at home. "

Commissions cannot yet guarantee admission for the start of the school year

Only parents unable to telecommute have so far been able to benefit from the 330 places available in municipal crèches. These criteria will be able to become more flexible from June 8, with 260 additional places until the end of July. A new stage before projecting on “a so-called normal return” at the end of August, with 1,945 places in the 50 establishments of the city, and even 4,575 by adding the associative structures.

From mid-June, however, admissions committees should only provide parents with virtual seats, subject to a favorable development of the pandemic. In the meantime, the ten children of the Joliot Curie crèche did not have their only pre-nap story, La Chasse à l'ours, as their only concern on Tuesday . "Life is beautiful, we are not afraid of anything," they were able to chant with the characters.
