China News Service, Beijing, May 24 Question: Tan Jinqiu: To guide young people in Hong Kong to correctly understand the country

China News Agency reporter Chen Xiaoyuan

In the turmoil of Hong Kong's amendments, some young people were incited to take to the streets to participate in violent activities. Tan Jinqiu, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the board of directors and chief executive of Hong Kong Songqian Enterprise Group Co., Ltd., said in an interview with reporters in Beijing recently that education in Hong Kong has encountered great problems and young people should be guided to correctly understand the country.

Tan Jinqiu believes that some young people in Hong Kong have relatively little knowledge of the country, and have been instigated by opposition figures under the guise of so-called democracy and freedom, failing to understand the country correctly.

He said that people from all walks of life in Hong Kong, including members of the CPPCC National Committee of the Hong Kong District, have a responsibility to guide young people in Hong Kong to correctly understand the country, such as encouraging young people to visit the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to see the development of the country.

Tan Jinqiu said that due to the turmoil of the amendments, many young people in Hong Kong are afraid to study abroad and are afraid of unequal treatment. Some young people have concerns about going to university in Hong Kong, mainly because they are excluded from participating in illegal activities incited by criminals.

Tan Jinqiu suggested that the education department should take the lead to let well-known universities in the Mainland further open the door to Hong Kong youth, so that Hong Kong students can study in the Mainland more conveniently. This will also help young people in Hong Kong to better understand the development and advantages of the motherland and thus integrate into the overall situation of national development.

Tan Jinqiu submitted to the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference this year the "Proposal on Combining the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with Recommendations to Assist Hong Kong's Youth Employment".

He said that after the storm of amendments, many employers in Hong Kong are cautious about hiring graduates, and even dare not to hire them. Hong Kong's youth employment will face greater difficulties.

He called on all walks of life in Hong Kong to provide employment opportunities for Hong Kong youths, assist Hong Kong college students in finding employment and entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, strengthen the promotion of employment in the Greater Bay Area for Hong Kong youths, and hope that charities, etc., will play a leading role.

At the National People's Congress and the National People's Congress this year, the "Decision of the National People's Congress on Establishing and Improving the Legal System and Enforcement Mechanism for the Maintenance of National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Draft)" has received great attention. Tan Jinqiu believes that this is very necessary to fill the gap in Hong Kong's maintenance of national security.

He pointed out that in recent years, the opposition in Hong Kong has become more and more paranoid, especially advocating "scramble". At the same time, there were black storms on the streets and the rise of local terrorism, making Hong Kong a risk point and gap for national security.

Tan Jinqiu said that many friends are very distressed about the status quo in Hong Kong. The black storms that appeared in the storm of revision have already caused a great impact on the normal lives of Hong Kong citizens. After this period of time, the people of Hong Kong have become deeply aware of the dangers of "Hong Kong independence" and elements of Hong Kong chaos.

He said that the central government has taken a decisive approach to establish and improve Hong Kong's legal system and enforcement mechanism for safeguarding national security at the national level, so that "one country, two systems" will not be undermined, and it will help Hong Kong's long-term stability and prosperity and stability.

Regarding the Western countries' criticism of Hong Kong affairs, Tan Jinqiu said that Hong Kong is an inseparable part of China, and handling Hong Kong affairs is an internal matter of China. Western countries such as the United States openly stood up and supported the elements of the Hong Kong chaos, throwing out the so-called "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act", which was actually an attempt to use Hong Kong as a "weapon" to infiltrate and subvert China.

Tan Jinqiu also said that Hong Kong has unique advantages in finance and law. The construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has provided development opportunities for various industries in Hong Kong. Hong Kong should find breakthroughs in the "Belt and Road" initiative, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and combine Hong Kong's inherent advantages with the overall development of the country to achieve a win-win situation.
