The pact with Podemos and EH Bildu authorized by Pedro Sánchez and signed by Adriana Lastra behind the back of Parliament, of the parties that supported in Congress the extension of the state of alarm and even of most of the Council of Ministers shows that the rupture claims of the coalition government represented by Pablo Iglesias are incompatible with the stability necessary to face the deep economic recession that Spain is facing, as a consequence of the effects of the pandemic. The pact with the heirs of ETA to repeal the labor reform in exchange for their parliamentary support -in case Cs and ERC finally decided to vote against- has internally fractured the Government, generating a residue of desolation and mistrust with the president from the ministers of the technical and economic areas, who have been carefully weaving social dialogue with businessmen and unions for weeks.

And it is that only 10 days have passed since the social agents reached an agreement in Moncloa in defense of employment that, among other measures, prolonged the ERTE until after the state of alarm, giving tranquility to the affected workers and guarantees to employers and freelancers. It is not surprising that the President of CEOE, Antonio Garamendi , has broken off the dialogue with an Executive incapable of keeping his word on such a vital issue for all Spaniards, but not before warning of the consequences of repealing a law that It has proven to be the most effective tool to revive the labor market. And to do it, also, for ideological reasons, creating a framework of legal insecurity that could lead, he said yesterday on our pages, "to remove the T from ERTE and move to ERE", that is, to initiate an escalation of mass dismissals in all the productive sectors .

Vice President Nadia Calviño has tried to put on hot cloths to reassure both social partners and Brussels, who warned that carrying out the measure would plunge Spain into a greater crisis than expected by undermining the credibility of the Government before our community partners -which They must approve plans for accessing European funds - and against international creditors and investors, at a time when it is essential to resort to external financing to consolidate and maintain the increasing costs of the welfare state. Only a personal intervention by Sánchez acknowledging his mistake -because it is unthinkable that Lastra made the decision without consulting him-, breaking the agreement with Bildu - with whom he promised "twenty times" in the campaign never to agree to a deal- and disavowing the bravado of his vice president - which has been taking away his sleep for some time - they could amend the situation and not spoil efforts to achieve a stable framework that gives confidence to workers, employers and the EU.

Even so, the Government, in just five months in the legislature, is broken. And it does not have easy recomposition . The mistake of putting a group like Podemos in the Council of Ministers has become evident, and it has not tired of repeating that its objective is to end the 1978 Constitution and break coexistence among Spaniards. Mortgaging the continuity of the Government to proetarras and separatists is not sustainable for the fourth economy of the European Union .
