The shooting had started before the health crisis, but the subject took on its full meaning during confinement. The Zone Interdite team followed four families in their construction or renovation of their house. A filming which continued, with their agreement, during the confinement. Ophélie Meunier, the presenter of the show, was the guest of Europe 1, Friday.

INTERVIEW

Zone interdite returns Sunday on M6 with a new number. "It is the dream of all French people, and more than ever it took on its full meaning during confinement", presents Ophélie Meunier in the trailer. Entitled "Against all odds, they build the house of their dreams", this issue follows the construction or renovation project of the house of four families. A shooting that continued during the confinement, said Ophélie Meunier, guest of Europe 1, Friday. "We asked them if they agreed to continue filming during the confinement, because it adds an issue and a twist to the experience, and they all said 'yes' right away."

For a year, the Zone Interdite teams followed 4 families who embarked on the adventure of their lives: building their houses.

Workers repatriated to their country of origin

"For the vast majority of French people, our homes have become the center of our lives", continues the presenter. Also, she adds, if filming had started well before confinement, this documentary then took on a whole new dimension.

We follow in particular the renovation project of Corinne and Frédéric, who bought a farmhouse in the Cévennes surrounded by six hectares of scrubland. With the health crisis, Polish workers who worked on the site were repatriated to their country of origin, leaving unfinished floors, partitions, electricity and plumbing.

"Many French people have experienced it," explains Ophélie Meunier. "Many skilled workers in France are foreigners and have been repatriated to their country, leaving people alone on the site." But more is needed to discourage these families. There is the structural work, but also the things that you can do yourself, with a lot of motivation and resourcefulness, so as not to lose two months of time on the work. "For what we can do alone, the families have therefore decided to put on their work overalls, to take their brushes, and to do it themselves," she continued at the microphone of Europe 1.

"We effectively applied barrier gestures"

Although the plans of these families were disrupted by the coronavirus crisis, this unpublished issue of Forbidden Zone is intended to be positive. "It's 'feel good', I guess that's really what we need to see," says Ophélie Meunier. "It feels good to laugh, to see people who, admittedly, are struggling, but with a smile." A tone that is the opposite of the last unpublished issue of the show, a special issue broadcast on March 29, and dedicated to the members of the nursing staff of the Covid-19 on a daily basis.

If the four families followed decided to build their house "against all odds", it was the same for the construction of the documentary. "Our teams are not confined, some trades, including journalists, have been able to continue working," explains Ophélie Meunier, who specifies that the shooting continued with the agreement of the families. "We effectively applied the barrier gestures: few people on the spot, a respected social distancing, masks, gloves ... And then it rolls".
