Li Jiachao: The report of the Supervisory Commission remains flat

Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, May 20 (Xinhua) Li Jiachao, head of the Security Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, said on the 20th that the report of the Hong Kong Independent Supervision Police Complaints Committee (IPCC) was open and flat, based on facts.

The IPCC issued a special review report on "Large public activities and related police actions triggered by the revised draft of the" Fugitive Offenders Ordinance "from June 2019." The report pointed out that the demonstrations have evolved from the initial peaceful marches and public gatherings and turned into radical street violent demonstrations.

Li Jiachao said that the Supervisory Committee will adopt a public attitude and write a report based on facts. In July 2019, a special platform was set up to solicit information. A total of more than 12,000 emails, 600 messages, and more than 100 phone calls were received. The IPCC has reviewed more than 23,000 photos and more than 22,000 video clips, most of which were provided by the public. It took more than 10 months for the IPCC to review all the information before publishing the report.

Li Jiachao said that he will set up a task force as required by the Chief Executive to supervise and follow up on the 52 recommendations made in the report. He will soon hold the first meeting with the Security Bureau and the police representatives to study the direction and sequence of follow-up recommendations.
