“The fact that we have managed to find pristine ancient mounds is a rare case and a great success. Experts believe that a settlement was located near these funerary structures. Archaeologists have yet to determine its exact location, ”said Alexey Emelyanov, head of the Department of Cultural Heritage.

According to him, they will not conduct excavations of burials, at the moment, scientists are conducting detailed measurements of the mounds and fixing their location.

It is noted that in such mounds there could be both single and tribal graves. In total, four mounds were discovered.

After the scientists have completed the research, a special commission will consider the issue of assigning conservation status to the burial site.

In February, RIA Novosti Crimea reported that a medieval weapons arsenal was found on the territory of the Genoese fortress of Chembalo in Balaclava.
