  • According to a video posted on Twitter and Facebook, 5G would have caused the death of several pigeons in Barcelona.
  • Images showing corpses of birds, in the middle of the street, are disseminated with this legend.
  • The sequence was filmed in Barcelona, but the death of the birds has nothing to do with 5G, as the municipality explains at 20 Minutes .

“The pigeons fall from the sky like stones, it happens near the 5G antennas. On Twitter, a ten-second video claims to show the serious consequences of this technology, faster than 4G, which fuels many fantasies.

If his legend is cause for concern, the images - also very often taken up by English-speaking internet users in a version locating them in Barcelona, Spain - show some pigeons, very alive, in the midst of numerous corpses of congeneric people scattered on the ground. Without the slightest volatile falling from the sky or a 5G antenna being visible around. And for good reason: their death has no connection with the explanation advanced.

FAKE OFF

The sequence was indeed filmed in Barcelona: the slabs marked with a symbol that can be seen on the ground, typical of the city, already constitute a first clue. And the municipality confirms it at 20 Minutes  : “These images were filmed in Barcelona. The cause of death of these pigeons has no link with the 5G antennas: during the confinement, a group of dead pigeons was found and analyzes point to a probable poisoning. "

"There have been no other cases of suspicious death of birds, it is even quite the opposite: the low presence of the inhabitants in the streets has enabled the birds to benefit from the arrival of spring and the breeding season ”, continues the city of Barcelona.

One of the first occurrences of the video dates back to March 26, in a Telegram group. If 5G tests are well underway in Barcelona, the city is not the first to find itself at the heart of an accusation linking this technology to the sudden death of birds. Such claims had indeed agitated some internet users at the end of 2018, after a similar case in the Netherlands, when no 5G antenna was nearby.
