One of the first exhibitions at the Bassins de Lumières in Bordeaux, will be devoted to Gustav Klimt - Mickaël Bosredon / 20 Minutes

The Bassins de Lumières will open their doors on June 10, almost two months late due to the Covid-19 crisis. The opening will be "in compliance with health standards: limitation of the number of visitors, internet reservations by time slots, wearing of a mandatory mask for visitors and employees or even strict application of hygiene and flow management provisions", clarified the town hall of Bordeaux in a press release.

This immersive cultural space, which should provide Bordeaux with the “largest digital art center in the world”, will offer works by painters Gustav Klimt and Paul Klee projected, thanks to 95 video projectors and 120 km of optical fiber, on 12,000 m2 of surface in the imposing submarine base, built by the Nazis during the Second World War.

Digital sound works are projected on the walls

The place, atypical and monumental, consists of four pools of water 110 m long and 12 m high and can be crossed by walkways to encourage free walking while digital sound works are projected on the walls and other supports and are reflected on the liquid surface.

The Bassins de Lumières, a digital art center, are managed by the private organization Culturespaces, which is already piloting L'Atelier des Lumières in Paris and Les Carrières de Lumières in Baux-de-Provence.
