Customs officials seized 1.5 tonnes of cannabis from a Spanish truck on a motorway service area near Poitiers, the Rennes prosecutor announced on Wednesday. The seizure took place on May 14, on the area of ​​the A10 Poitiers-Chince highway.

In detail, Poitiers customs officials seized 936 kilos of grass and 554 kilos of cannabis resin hidden in a truck carrying pallets of auto parts. "The drugs were hidden in wooden cases hidden at the bottom of the trailer," said prosecutor Philippe Astruc in a press release.

The Spanish driver, born in 1974 and without a criminal record, "declared going to the Paris region to deliver the pallets of auto parts he was transporting", according to the same source. It was handed over to the Poitiers judicial police and the Poitiers prosecutor's office relinquished the case to the prosecution of the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) of Rennes.

Judicial information has been opened. The Spanish driver was charged on May 18 and imprisoned.
