The National Assembly should launch a commission of inquiry into the coronavirus crisis in June. It should thus be added to that of the Senate, with a right-wing majority, AFP learned on Tuesday.

The president of the Assembly Richard Ferrand (LREM) had installed at the beginning of April a simple fact-finding mission, having to acquire the prerogatives of a commission of inquiry to "return to normal" after the epidemic. LR deputies then pleaded for a launch in the fall.

A progress report expected in late May-early June

Since then, the Senate has acted the establishment of its own commission of inquiry into the health crisis in June. "We are not going to trial, it is not our goal, the state. Our goal is to see what has worked, what has not worked, and learn from it, ”said senator leader LR Bruno Retailleau. In the eyes of his counterpart in the Assembly Damien Abad, who spoke about it with Richard Ferrand, "it is important that we have a harmonization of the calendars".

The fact-finding mission should deliver "a progress report at the end of May-beginning of June" and "the commission of inquiry could meet in June, that is the objective", said the boss of the deputies LR in videoconference Press. Damien Abad “considered” to take on the role of rapporteur for the future commission of inquiry, a function reserved for the first opposition group. Richard Ferrand must retain the presidency.

For its part, the group of PCF deputies decided to launch a commission of inquiry into "the dysfunctions in the health management of the coronavirus crisis". After a green light under conditions of the Keeper of the Seals, André Chassaigne's group is waiting for its request to be examined by the Social Affairs Committee at the Assembly. "If we want an effective commission of inquiry, we must not delay," said Pierre Dharréville, spokesman for the Communist deputies, on Tuesday.
