These are the words often asked by Lin Xiaolian from Beili Primary School students.
Beili Primary School is located in Beili Island, Xuwen County and Anzhen, Zhanjiang City. It is the southernmost island in the mainland of the motherland. It takes about an hour by ferry from the land to the island. Because of the hardship and poverty, many young teachers who came to teach here have left one after another. More than 300 students on the island are particularly eager for teachers to stay and teach for a long time.
Lin Xiaolian's arrival seemed to bring a beam of light to their lives. After graduating from Zhanjiang Teachers College in 2014, Lin Xiaolian found out that her hometown of Xuwen County, North Lidao, was very short of teachers. She did not hesitate to sign up to teach, and it was 6 years. In 2016, she applied for the recruitment of “three support and one support” in Guangdong Province and voluntarily offered to stay at Beili Elementary School. After two years of support, she still chose to stay. She said: "Looking at the eyes of the children on the island, I can't go. I know that only knowledge can change their destiny. They need me."
First time on the island, unimaginable hardship
Recalling his first visit to Beili Island, Lin Xiaolian said, "It is unimaginable and impressive." It was a day in September 2014, and she went to He'an Town to take a ferry to Beili Island. It was found that the ferry had only three departures a day, 8 a.m., 12 noon and 4 p.m.
Moreover, after arriving at the ferry, you must take off your shoes and socks and walk barefoot to reach the boarding point.
The ferry is small and can accommodate up to 20 people. Lin Xiaolian got on the boat with big and small bags, and finally came to Beili Primary School an hour later.
"The school does not have any multimedia equipment, and the teacher still uses chalk on the blackboard and teaches with the teaching pole as in the past." Lin Xiaolian said bluntly, knowing the difficulty here, but did not expect such difficulty. But the difficulties did not dispel her "education dream". She had lived on the island because of inconvenient transportation, and left every Sunday until Friday. The island ’s residents ’daily necessities and household food must be supplied by small businessmen on land. The price is very expensive. She used the time to return to the city on weekends to buy school supplies and snacks for the children. There is a shortage of school teachers. She not only teaches English but also serves as a language teacher. "Sometimes I envy my classmates who teach in big cities, but the innocence and simplicity of the children on the island have moved me a lot. I feel like they are their second parents. Although they are hard, they are very happy." She Say.
Rejected the special recruitment of county key middle schools
The arrival of Lin Xiaolian not only brought youthful vitality and warmth to Beili Primary School, but also made Beili Primary School achieve unprecedented teaching achievements. In the graduation class brought by Lin Xiaolian in 2016, 10 of 45 people were admitted to Meixi Middle School, a county key middle school, which was the largest number of students admitted to this school in Beili Primary School in decades. "At that time, only 21 students from He'an Township were admitted to Meixi Middle School, and no one expected that 10 out of this poor island. Almost broke the historical record of Xuwen County." Speaking of which, Lin Xiaolian's face appeared Brilliant smile. She told reporters that it is very rare for children on the island to be admitted to the county's key middle school. Parents are particularly proud and her heart is full of accomplishment.
Because of Lin Xiaolian's outstanding performance, Meixi Middle School specially recruited her to teach. "This is the best middle school in the county, and many people can't pass the exam. It is a rare opportunity for me at the stage of external recruitment. I am entangled." A month later, the principal of Meixi Middle School personally called Lin Xiaolian On the phone, Lin Xiaolian politely declined the principal's invitation. She said that the children of Beili Primary School need me more and I want to stay.
"Teaching at Beili Elementary School for a long time, and feelings for the students there. Teaching is everywhere, children on these islands can only change their destiny by knowledge, I want to make them better, so I want to stay "Lin Xiaolian told reporters.
Watching the children's eyes can't bear to go
Unconsciously, Lin Xiaolian has been working on the island for 6 years, and she is increasingly inseparable from this island. "Every time when the end of the semester is off, there will be a group of children to ask you, 'Teacher, will you come next semester?' And students will say, 'Teacher, you have taught them until graduation, why not We also teach to graduate? 'Looking at their eyes, I really can't bear to go ... "Lin Xiaolian told reporters that many young teachers used to leave after less than a year, so the children here especially hope to have one The teacher has stayed to teach them.
At present, there are more than 300 students in Beili Primary School, and there are only a dozen teachers. Lin Xiaolian said that the school is still lacking teachers, hoping to have teachers come here for long-term teaching, and hopes to bring more fresh blood to the area through the "three support and one support" policy.
