Lucky Peterson died suddenly Sunday at 55 in a hospital in Dallas, Texas, his relatives announced on social media Monday.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lucky Peterson," said a statement published in French and English on the Facebook page of the American blues musician.

"He was at home when he fell ill and was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, the doctors could not revive him, "said his relatives.

A regular at French festivals

Lucky Peterson was the victim of "a massive stroke," according to French journalist and music critic Alex Dutilh.

Guitarist, organist and singer, Judge Kenneth Peterson, whose real name is, was a renowned figure on the blues and jazz scene. He regularly performed at festivals in France. His latest album 50 Just Warming Up! was released in 2019 under the French label Jazz Village.
