China News Agency, Hong Kong, May 18 (Reporter Zeng Ping) The House Committee of the Hong Kong SAR Legislative Council (Inner Committee) met on the 18th to elect the chairman of the Internal Committee.

Due to the deliberate obstruction of members of the opposition, the internal committee of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has not elected its chairman for more than half a year. The Chairman of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Liang Junyan, cited Rule 92 of the Rules of Procedure and appointed Chen Jianbo, a member of the Legislative Council, to preside over the election of the chairman of the Internal Committee on the 18th.

The election meeting of the chairman of the Internal Committee was held at 11 am. The opposition MPs surrounded the rostrum before the meeting. After the meeting, they pushed the security personnel on the scene and attempted to rush to the rostrum. The scene was in chaos. Chen Jianbo once announced the suspension of the meeting.

Opposition lawmakers kept clamoring in the conference room, and some of them stood on the conference table, dismantled Legislative Council documents and threw them onto the rostrum and midair. After repeated warnings and persuasion, Chen Jianbo expelled many opposition MPs who obstructed the meeting from the conference room.

At about 11:50, Chen Jianbo asked the staff to distribute the presidential election votes to the members of the Legislative Council present, and then entered the voting and counting procedures. In the end, Chen Jianbo announced that Li Huiqiong was elected chairman of the internal committee. The meeting ended at about 12 noon. (Finish)
