On May 18, 2020, Agathe Lecaron, Benjamin Muller and Anna Roy on the set of La Maison des maternelles, version déconfinement. - F. Randanne / 20 Minutes

  • "La Maison des maternelles", a program devoted to parenting, is broadcast on France 5 from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m.
  • Since the deconfinement, the show had to settle on an improvised set that "20 Minutes" visited on Monday.
  • To ensure direct coverage, the teams - reduced compared to the usual staff - must deal with the D system while benefiting from a device hitherto unprecedented in TV.

The Nursery school has moved temporarily. Since May 11, the show, broadcast from 9 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. on France 5, has been filmed in Balard (Paris 15th) in the heart of the premises of 2P2L, the company that produces it.

Impossible for the moment to return to the set shared with La Quotidienne , it was necessary to resort to system D. “We are at the end of the season since the filming will stop at the end of May. We had no budget to redecorate a decor, so we settled in the cafeteria which is equipped a bit like in the spirit of the program, "says producer Jérôme Caza, showing the owner around 20 Minutes this Monday.

"Agathe Lecaron had a rotten Internet connection"

A wooden table, colorful chairs, recycled objects from previous seasons and the warm decor is planted. During all the confinement, La Maison des maternelles remained on the air in a “degraded” version - to understand, with animators and guests speaking from their homes through screens.

“Agathe Lecaron had a rotten Internet connection. It was stressing her, ”smiles the producer. The presenter confirms: “It feels good to come back! It is important for the mood. We have a public service mission, we are addressing people who, for some, are very stressed, it is a good thing to be able to answer their questions while bringing a little lightness. "

Installed at a reasonable distance from the presenter, the columnist Benjamin Muller continues: "At the moment, we no longer try subjects on the fringes, we are refocusing on what questions parents and future parents". On the menu of this Monday program, a focus on Kawasaki disease, an exchange with Dr. Kristell Guével-Delarue, general practitioner in PMI (Maternal and child protection) or even a report on the facilities in schools to ensure respect barrier gestures.

"The program has helped field health professionals"

Midwife and columnist Anna Roy is back on set. She is “super happy to come back”, all the more since she says she saw during the confinement period how much the program was “a precious tool”. “  The Nursery school helped the field health professionals. It was the only media talking about parents and pregnant women. They no longer had any preparation for childbirth, the show's website was one of the few to offer free content. "

Marie Perarnau, another columnist for the magazine, intervenes from her home in Brussels. Ditto for the boxing champion Estelle Mossely who gave birth ten days ago to her second child. Her testimony on this confinement birth is punctuated by the noises, off-screen, from a dishwasher being emptied. The proof that the stars of the sport either do not escape the household chores and an element which is used as key word of the emission: "the authenticity", as underlines Jérôme Caza.

The duplexes are linked together smoothly, so it is difficult to imagine what is going on behind the scenes, namely

a technical organization close to the balancing act. In normal times, there are around twenty people on the set. In this new context, there are three times less. Same thing with regard to the cameras: the device has only four, against the usual fifteen. The director is in an office, the sound manager in another, the producer follows the conduct of the driver from his screen installed in the corridor while Clément, the voice which communicates with Agathe Lecaron and Benjamin Muller via their earphones, intervenes ... from is home.

"The chains would not have dared"

La Maison des Maternelles also benefits from its presence on its YouBLive premises. This live digital production company is supported by 2P2L. “We created a kind of management on a Zoom videoconferencing interface. This allows you to do "multi-windowing" [make several screens appear on the same screen], add a skin, integrate synths [information banners or messages from viewers] ", explains its creator, Florent Peiffer, ex -Itélé journalist who has been developing this technology for three years.

Originally, this device was intended for social networks. He adds: “We did not imagine too much the decline one day for television. The chains would not have dared. And then the confinement and the constraints induced for audiovisual production went through there and allowed YouBLive to cross a course. The company has also been used for The Show Must Go Home , Arthur's show, several issues of which have been broadcast on TF1 in recent weeks.

If it is likely that at the start of the new year, the Maison des maternelles will regain its normal configuration, there will undoubtedly be something of the necessary adaptations to the contexts of confinement and deconfinement. “There will be lessons to be learned from this, supports Jérôme Caza. Sometimes, we bring some guests from the other end of France for ten minutes on the set, finally, we realize that it is "acceptable" to have them on webcam. And then, the irony of the story is that in this period, we will have been live every day. In normal times, the teams provide direct on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but on these days they record the other programs of the week ... The deconfinement as a renaissance for the magazine dedicated to babies.
