Even if there is confusion around their reliability and their usefulness, the demand for serological tests has exploded since the beginning of deconfinement. Among the first players to position themselves on this market, the Breton company NG Biotech is running at full speed to massively manufacture its rapid tests carried out using a single drop of blood.
€ 250,000 was released by @regionbretagne for the company @NGBiotech_EN from Guipry-Messac (Ille-et-Vilaine), in order to speed up its production of serological tests. The Brittany region has also ordered 100,000 tests. # solidarity # covid19 #Brittany #Breizh pic.twitter.com/WerCG5aRDW- Elected S&D Brittany (@Elus_SocDem_BZH) May 10, 2020
After having signed a contract with the army for an amount of one million euros, the company based in Guipry-Messac near Rennes announces this Monday that it has received an order from the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP- HP) covering 100,000 units. "The first tests were delivered in early May," said the company in a statement, adding that they will be intended for healthcare professionals and hospitals.
Two million tests produced per month by July
At the end of April, the Rennes University Hospital, via its Nominoë solidarity fund, had already ordered 15,000 tests for its caregivers in order to "reassure" them and to conduct an important epidemiological study.
To cope with this increase in activity, the company NG Biotech had to review its organization and urgently set up a second production site "which will be operational in the coming weeks". "Our test production capacity will reach two million units per month by July and will be able to adapt, depending on demand, to rise to three to four million units per month before the end of 2020", indicates its CEO Milovan Stankov Pugès.
