Daði og Gagnamagnið, Iceland's candidates for Eurovision 2020. - Mummi Lú

In 2020, Eurovision rhymes with frustration. Saturday, in place of the grand finale canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, European viewers were treated to Europe Shine A Light , a special program supposed to pay homage to the competition but which turned out to be more thrilling than exhilarating. And that was felt on the hearings.

The forty-one artists who should have been in the running this year had barely a minute and a half of antenna each and only (very) short extracts from their respective songs were broadcast. What was especially missing was this thrill awaiting the results, the excitement of the distribution of points. There had to be a reason: this year, the competition not taking place, there would be no winner.

But it was without counting on several television channels which, these last days and weeks organized their own polls by proposing to the televiewers to crown their symbolic winner. The Roop, the group representing Lithuania, triumphed in Germany, while the Icelanders of Daði & Gagnamagnið, who were the big favorites of this edition, were unanimous in Finland, Austria, Australia and Sweden. The Icelandic public, meanwhile, praised the Italian Diodato. Honorable mention to the Russian group Little Big, which ended up on the podium in Germany, Finland, Australia and Iceland - and in the Top 5 in Sweden.

The Swedish channel SVT organized its version (which counts for butter) of # Eurovision 2020 so that the Swedish public allocates its 12 points. It was therefore Iceland that came first in the vote. And France is in the top 10! # Sveriges12a pic.twitter.com/hzomflguiy

The General Organization of Eurovision Fans also called on the forty or so associations that make it up - including OGAE France, see box - to get their members and Internet users to vote. On the side of this prize list, Lithuania won ahead of Iceland and Switzerland.

20 Minutes combined the different classifications from TV shows or fan club polls mentioned above in order to establish a symbolic prize list. The Top 10 “for the beauty of the gesture” of Eurovision 2020 would be as follows:

01. Iceland

02. Lithuania

03. Russia

04. Switzerland

05. Italy

06. Bulgaria

07. Malta

08. Sweden

09. Denmark

10. Germany

This ranking agrees broadly with the number of streams on Spotify (an indicator like any other, to be balanced however since the site is not accessible in all countries). As relayed by our RTL colleagues on Friday, the Icelandic song Think About Things is the most listened to in the world via this platform - it is also the most listened to song from Eurovision 2020 in France. It is ahead of  On Fire , that of Lithuania.

And France in all this? In the list calculated by 20 Minutes , My Allie by Tom Leeb is in 15th position. She only got points from the Swedish public. This title - composed by Scandinavians - is also this Monday the ninth most downloaded on iTunes in Sweden. A lot of consolation.

Do you agree with this ranking? Did you have any other favorite songs from the forty-one competing this year? Tell us in the comments !

French fans voted for Switzerland

The French Eurofans - members of the association OGAE France - have praised the candidate from Switzerland, Gjon's Tears and his song Répondez-moi . The singer, who arrived in the semifinals of The Voice in France last year, was renewed by the delegation of the Swiss confederation for Eurovision 2021… In the list of French aficionados, Switzerland is ahead of Lithuania and this year Iceland. Italy and Russia complete the Top 5. From sixth to tenth place, in order, are Norway, Bulgaria, Sweden, Malta and Germany.
