The Minister of Culture, Franck Riester, announces a "Risk-free" Music Festival - Romain GAILLARD-POOL / SIPA

  • The Minister of Culture announced on RTL that a "big music meeting" would be offered to the French on June 21.
  • "The limit is not to take risks with groupings, too much population mixing," he warns.
  • Prime Minister Edouard Philippe should specify the conditions for organizing major events in late May.

You may be able to pick up your guitar and sit on the sidewalk on June 21. There will indeed be a Music Festival on the first day of summer, a "great music meeting" but "without taking risks", assured Friday the Minister of Culture, Franck Riester. “It is in the identity of our compatriots. We will talk about music, we will see music. There will be a big music event, ”he said on RTL.

“We try to offer something that has a mouth, which allows the French to sing, to play music, without taking risks. […] We are trying to prepare something, including outside. The limit is not to take risks with regroupings, a too important mixing of population ”, moderated the minister, underlining that the radios and televisions are also in the process of being organized for June 21.

On June 21, we will celebrate music! Different from previous years, in strict compliance with health rules, but we will celebrate music because we are attached to this great popular festival. #RTLSoir pic.twitter.com/ch65Z5Hz7q

Details of major events in late May

While the media libraries, libraries and small museums were able to reopen on May 11, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe should specify the conditions for the organization of major events in late May. All festivals welcoming more than 5,000 people cannot be organized before the end of August. "For the others, we hope to be able to see from June, July, August. Organize cultural events taking into account constraints, "said the Minister.

"We will have to be pragmatic by perhaps offering different formats, by allowing artistic and cultural education to be developed, so that people can do an artistic practice themselves," continued Franck Riester.

An opening of cinemas "in early July"?

Regarding conservatories and music schools, the ministry "is currently discussing with Jean Castex's teams", charged by the Prime Minister with coordinating the deconfinement strategy.

"We would like cinemas to reopen within a reasonable time," continued Franck Riester. The minister says he is working on opening theaters "in early July", provided that "the health standards to be respected in a cinema are finalized, and that we can open the cinemas at the same time, in the red zones and green zones, to amortize the cost of distributing and promoting films.
