Very affected by the coronavirus crisis, the French tourism sector received a breath of fresh air this Thursday, with the announcements of Edouard Philippe. This Friday, Carole Delga put forward an additional idea to facilitate the revival of the activity: the socialist president of the Occitania region called the motorway companies to offer free tolls this summer.

For this particular tourist season, let's help the French to go on vacation by supporting their purchasing power.

"I request, as part of their concession with the State, an exceptional effort of national solidarity to French motorway companies for this summer of 2020," wrote the elected official in a press release, where she called on the government to "go further on the tourism plan ”.

In Occitania, this sector directly employs 100,000 people and represents 10% of regional GDP. 30 million tourists are welcomed each year, for 200 million overnight stays, which generates a turnover of 15.9 billion euros.

Among other proposals, Carole Delga evokes a "tourist voucher", with an "all inclusive" formula (public transport, plate, overnight stay, leisure), without specifying the amount. "The region is also considering allowing maximum travel by adapting its TER and coach prices this summer," she added.
