The "bicycle boost", introduced by the government to boost the practice of cycling in the perspective of deconfinement, has put its finger on one of the flaws of the bicycle system in France: the lack of repair shops. Many have been engorged for a week and often for the next two, this plan "boost bike" providing a package of 50 euros to repair his bicycle.

Elisabeth Borne was quick to react. This Thursday morning, in Evry-Courcouronnes, in Essonne, the Minister of the Ecological and Solidarity Transition announced the launch of an Academy of cycling professions, with multiple objectives. In the coming months, it will aim to train 250 new mechanics to meet the demand for repairs. The 20-day training course will allow apprentice mechanics to acquire a base of skills that can be used immediately, the ministry said in a press release.

Train 500 bicycle mechanics per year

The objective will then be to train 500 certified bicycle mechanics per year, but also to develop technical guides, a web platform and training materials, but also to train bicycle experts of all levels. Mechanics therefore, but also trainers. Supported by the Federation of bicycle users (FUB), this Bicycle Academy will also rely on the National Cycle and Motocycle Institute (INCM). It will be financed, up to 8 million euros, through an energy saving certificate (CEE) system.
