  • The prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône, Pierre Dartout, announced Friday that the Calanques National Park would remain closed.
  • But no order setting out the ban has been made since Monday and the start of the containment.
  • A meeting is planned for Tuesday between the various stakeholders of the Calanques National Park to decide on its reopening.

A decision based on the health situation related to the Covid-19 pandemic, but a legal vacuum since Monday morning. Since the start of confinement in France on Monday, land access to the Calanques National Park, in Marseille, is again accessible. However, Friday during a press briefing on deconfinement in the Bouches-du-Rhône, the prefect Pierre Dartout announced the extension of the ban on land access to the national park.

With the deconfinement, the ban on going to the mountains was lifted, unlike the ban on going to the beaches, and since the prefecture has not issued an order stipulating this ban. "We are a little annoyed because the prefect announced the continuation of the ban on Friday, but since no order has been taken. A lot of people are calling us [this Monday] to ask us and we don't know what to answer because normally it is prohibited, but nothing stipulates it, ”we explain from the side of the Calanques National Park.

A decision this Tuesday

The prefecture announces that a meeting is planned this Tuesday between the various stakeholders of the Calanques National Park to take a decision concerning the authorization of access to the massif. "The decision will be made based on the health situation," warns the prefecture. Except that since Monday, anyone can go. "But it's raining," we are told. This Tuesday, the weather is great.

The maritime prefecture of the Mediterranean had announced at the end of last week the authorization for pleasure activities throughout the Mediterranean, including the Calanques National Park. Since then, hikers have also hoped to be able to explore the massif. The National Park does not want to position itself, "these are health issues that exceed us", but is well aware that it will have to reopen one day or the other.

“Regarding the risk of frequentation, which we reopen now or in ten days, it will be the same. This requires anticipation and organization. There are also a lot of issues around the beaches, some like Sormiou are considered as beaches by the city of Marseille, and others like Port-Pin, not. It may be that the prefect decides on a ban on frequenting the coast, ”we advance to the Park. The 140 kilometers of marked trails will remain.
