  • A petition requesting the reopening of the tourist site brings together nearly 1,500 signatures in a few hours.
  • "The Puy du Fou teams are security and flow professionals", argues the text.

In a few hours, almost 1,500 people have already signed up. In Vendée, impatience is mounting around the reopening of Puy du Fou, originally scheduled for April 4. Closed since the start of containment, the second theme park in France behind Disneyland in terms of visitors (2.3 million in 2019) hopes to be able to start its season soon. "As parks, gardens and zoos reopen ... Puy du Fou is still waiting," says Véronique Besse, president of the Pays des Herbiers, who launched this petition with the support of Yves Auvinet, president of the departmental council and Christelle Morance, his counterpart in the Pays-de-la-Loire region.

With this text, addressed to President Macron, the elected officials actually want to put pressure on two days of an inter-ministerial tourism committee, which must seal the fate of campsites, restaurants or major leisure sites. "The Puy du Fou teams are security and flow professionals," plead the petitioners, who argue that the site is "essential for regional economic recovery".

A reopening in early June?

A few days ago, Nicolas de Villiers, the president of Puy du Fou, confided to 20 Minutes that he hoped for a reopening of the park on June 2, in compliance with social distancing measures. "We know that this season will not be mixed but very disaster, because we will not have our foreign customers," he said. Restricting the movement of French people can seriously impact our activity. By reopening in early June, this is a way to start with two months late, of course, but gradually. We already have a very significant financial loss, estimated at 50 million euros. "
