A beautiful beast. This Monday, May 11, the start of an ultra-progressive and high-risk deconfinement, it was with masks and two meters from the cameras that the press conference took place in the old Broussais hospital (Public Hospital Assistance) from Paris), in Paris 14e. Premises visited by the prefect of the Ile-de-France region, prefect of Paris, Michel Cadot, the director general of the Ile-de-France Regional Health Agency, Aurélien Rousseau, the director general of the AP -HP, Martin Hirsch, and the Deputy Mayor of Paris responsible for all matters relating to Health and relations with the AP-HP, Anne Souyris. Goal ? See how the new platform of the Chinese company MGI works, which should accelerate the screening… and fight against the coronavirus strategy.

"96 samples analyzed at the same time"

In fact, for the past two months, the Ministry of Health has chosen to invest in twenty machines that automatically, quickly and reliably analyze a large number of PCR tests. How much exactly? The Broussais platform can return the result of up to 4,000 tests in 24 hours. It is almost triple compared to a traditional machine. "Usually our machines analyze eight samples at the same time, this platform is 96 samples", summarizes Jacques Fourgeot, biologist at Necker Hospital (AP-HP), who works on this advanced machine. The AP-HP received two of these robots on Sunday, April 12, but they have only been operational since May 8, said Martin Hirsch. The time to organize the whole environment, the information, to recruit the professionals necessary to make the platform work. Who is not yet running at full speed ... for lack of tests. But for the director of the ARS, Aurélien Rousseau, this equipment will be a definite advantage in this high-risk deconfinement.
