The metro trains in Lyon are far from crowded on the first day of deconfinement. - C. Girardon / 20 Minutes

  • Public transport in Lyon intensified their services this Monday morning on the first day of deconfinement.
  • There was no rush on the subway platforms.
  • Most travelers were already aware of the requirement to wear a mask on the network.

“Before, I had my bus; a whole bus for me alone ... ”When he reached his place of work, Mathieu joked. Do not believe that there was a crowd Monday morning in public transport in Lyon for the first day of deconfinement. Quite the contrary. A total of seven people on the C20 bus line linking the heights of the 5th arrondissement of Lyon to the peninsula. Usually, when 8 o'clock strikes, the seats are lacking and travelers are forced as best they can to crowd into the aisles or to hold on firmly to the bars.

"At the start of confinement, I was really alone on the bus," says Mathieu, a young doctor. For the past fortnight, we have been five or six. As much as this [Monday] morning. " And to note: "There is not really any difference except that people are masked". He made the choice to go to work daily by public transportation, preferring to leave his car in his garage. And always. The appearance of the coronavirus did not change his mind.

Bellecour, a place still deserted

“I have no worries when I take the transport, especially since they are disinfected and there is no one at the moment. I see the danger much more in the hospital when I am less than a meter from my patients, ”he smiles, behind his mask.

A few minutes later, the bus arrives at Place Bellecour that nothing seems to disturb. The stores of the main stores are still closed. The pigeons, cooing peacefully near the puddles, pay little attention to the few workers in a hurry. On the metro platform of line A, Asma, 30, readjusts her mask while waiting for the next train to arrive. The young woman is preparing to return to work after two months of inactivity.

“The metro trains are almost deserted. It reassures me "

“I didn't go out for almost 8 weeks, so yes, I was a little worried about resuming public transport. I expected to see people but the trains are almost deserted, she explains. It reassures me ". Anaëlle, 25, admits having had no apprehension. “I didn't even ask myself the question. I have an appointment at 9 a.m. this morning. The quickest way to get there was to take the subway, ”says the medical student. And to raise: "In addition, there are almost no people. It really changes habits. By this time, normally, we are all crowded. ”

Rose Hakkar, Médialys agent, who wanders the aisles of the metro station, confirms the trend: "It is true that it is very calm". In office since 6:50 am, she ensures that travelers wear their masks, which are now compulsory in TCLs. It also reminds them of the safety distances to be observed. "There are always rebels," she slips mischievously. There is a tone and a way of doing things but overall, the travelers play the game. And the 3/4 are already wearing masks. ”

"Most travelers have a mask"

This is not the case for this student, politely arrested before she climbs into the subway train. The young woman stammers, apologizes, pretends not to know. " It does not matter. On the other hand, you have the possibility of recovering a mask free of charge at the entrance to the station, ”advises Rose, designating the two volunteers, responsible for distribution. "Thank you," says the student with a smile, going in their direction.

Fabrice and Alexandra, employees of Keolis (the operator of the TCL network) have volunteered to provide distribution to travelers since 6.30 am on Monday morning. "Our mission is above all to do pedagogy, to reassure people, to explain to them that within a few days, there will, however, be checks on the network," they respond in unison. But it is clear that they ultimately have few interventions to perform. "Most travelers already have a mask," confirms Alexandra. Basically, it's reassuring to see that the message has got through. ”
