In these months of coronavirus we have all felt a strong cocktail of emotions that will have varied from worry to anger or fear of absolute sadness.

Deeply human sensations.

But the way in which we face this anomalous situation that we are living will make it more difficult for us to end up suffering anxiety, depression or sleep disturbances that result in clinical cases.

The Professor of Psychology at UNED Miguel Ángel Vallejo has been carrying out a test since early April that involves a still photo of how our heads are reacting to so much uncertainty.

According to their data, with a sample of 600 people, the incidence of generalized anxiety disorders is around 33% during confinement. We are talking about a severe anxiety problem, not something specific. Regarding depression that required professional treatment, it would be 20%.

We chatted with him about this research project on the psychosocial impact of Covid-19 in episode 16 of the podcast #nosquedemosencasa of the newspaper El Mundo. The editor is my partner Daniel Izeddin. I am Virginia Hernández.

The research is ongoing and, as Professor Vallejo tells us, the results can help detect and anticipate the demand for psychological care that will follow after we can finally return to normal.
