Comedian Manu Payet, guest of Matthieu Noël in "L'Équipée sauvage" on Europe 1 Friday, explains why he finds it hard to "make people laugh" during this period of confinement.

INTERVIEW

Insufficient inspiration during confinement, Manu Payet? Guest of L'Équipée sauvage  on Europe 1 Friday, the comedian said he had difficulty making people laugh during this coronavirus crisis. His show "Emmanuel" behind him (the last performance took place in December), he now devotes himself fully to the conception of a film, which he has been writing "for a long time".

"I would like to tell you that he is ready. In fact, I thought I could use this time to write more, but I had a lot of trouble concentrating, writing and above all making people laugh", concedes Manu Payet. "Taking out your pen to write jokes right now is not easy."

"Can't wait for it to be behind us"

So to pass the time from the place where it is confined, and where the network is scarce, the actor reviews "old films" that he has not seen "for 20 years". But there too, the crisis has turned things upside down: "When I watch a film, I can't tell myself that we can no longer do certain things", like shaking hands, regrets Manu Payet, who says to himself "super worried" for the future. "I tell myself we have to go back to the movies. My memories of kids came in movies. I can't wait for all of this to be behind us."

Finally, there are social networks. Manu Payet made a remarkable appearance there two weeks ago when he shared a video of his new haircut made (and missed) by his partner. Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook ... "I'm not the poster who absolutely has to post stuff. (...) I don't go there often, from time to time, when I'm bored," he admits.

"Sometimes I realize that I'm there when I didn't really want to be there," says Manu Payet, who says he particularly likes the sketches of the comedian Hakim Jemili. "I'm going a bit voyeuristic. I feel like I'm eating space if I'm omnipresent." After all, is this really his time? "I'm not a millennial, I'm from 1975!"
