The deconfinement will become concrete this Thursday. Prime Minister Edoaurd Philippe will specify the details at 4 p.m., for a highly anticipated point after more than seven weeks of total confinement. Several subjects crystallize the attention to four days of the unlocking, on May 11, which will be carried out in a "progressive" and "differentiated" way, according to the Prime Minister: the conditions of reopening of nursery and elementary schools, the resumption of public transport , returning to businesses or the possibility of traveling within a radius of 100 km in particular.

The government will also unveil the famous departmental map, which will define the extent of deconfinement at the local level. Departments classified in green may proceed to a wider deconfinement than those in red. As of Wednesday evening, 27 metropolitan departments - in Ile-de-France and in the northeast - were still classified red, signifying that the virus is still circulating there strongly and / or that the pressure on hospitals is still strong there.

More than 25,800 dead in France, Sarthe goes green

Wednesday evening, the assessment of the coronavirus in France amounted to 25.809 dead, including 278 deaths in 24 hours. However, the number of resuscitations continues to decrease. The total number of serious hospitalized cases remains high, however, at 3,147

The deconfinement map, produced by department, has changed: the Sarthe has gone from orange to green, due to a "reduction in the circulation of the virus", according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health.

Europe is gradually reopening, imminent resumption of soccer in Germany

Deconfinement has started in several European countries, as the pandemic seems to be under control on the Old Continent. As a sign of this development, Germany gave the green light on Wednesday to the resumption on May 15 of its national football championship. The famous Bundesliga, interrupted two months ago like all other international competitions of its kind, will be the first major football championship to restart.

In Belgium, the imposed confinement continues to be relaxed, with the reopening of non-essential businesses on Monday, announced Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès. In the Netherlands restaurants, cafes and museums will reopen from June 1 as part of the deconfinement but sex clubs will have to wait until September.

Economically, however, Europe continues to suffer. The European Commission on Wednesday predicted a "historic" recession in the EU this year, with a record drop in GDP of 7.7% in the euro area, then a rebound of 6.3% in 2021.

Over 260,000 dead worldwide

Worldwide, the epidemic has killed at least 260,546 people since its appearance in December 2019 in China, according to an assessment established by AFP. Over 3.7 million cases have been officially diagnosed in 195 countries and territories.

The United States is the most affected country in terms of both death and cases, with 71,982 deaths for more than 1.2 million cases. The other countries most affected are the United Kingdom (30,076), Italy (29,684 dead), Spain (25,857) and France (25.809).
