The government does not provide "additional relaxation" to containment measures in nursing homes, in order to "continue to do everything to protect vulnerable elderly people," Health Minister Olivier Véran announced on Thursday.

"The visits of relatives may continue if the situation of the establishment allows," he continued, in a speech detailing the measures of progressive deconfinement from May 11.

€ 475 million in aid

Olivier Véran announced "exceptional" aid of 475 million euros for establishments for the elderly, as well as a bonus of 1,500 euros for all staff in nursing homes in the 33 departments "where the epidemic will have been the strongest" and 1,000 euros for all the others.

This bonus, "tax exempt", will be paid "in the coming weeks" to all staff, "regardless of their status, to enhance their unfailing commitment during this crisis," he added.

The staff of establishments welcoming disabled people, "when the health insurance contributes to their financing", will also be beneficiaries, said Olivier Véran.
