Since the introduction of containment measures in many countries of the world, the rental of electric scooters has stopped. One of the major players in this sector in France, Lime, is experiencing difficulties. Faced with this situation, Uber decided to support the start-up by organizing a fundraiser which aims to raise more than 150 million euros, Presse-Citron reports from The Information .
Lime's value drops 79%
As part of this rescue operation, Uber has already planned to inject just under 80 million euros. An action which is not trivial since the giant of the VTC would plan to buy Lime between 2022 and 2024. If this transaction were to come to fruition, Uber scooters would be integrated into Lime. With this in mind, Uber had already bought its main competitor, Jump, by investing nearly 300 million euros in this rental service for electric scooters in 2018.
Despite the difficulties, Lime did not cease its activity during the confinement period. In addition to the fundraising organized by Uber, the start-up bought the electric skateboard company Boosted. On the other hand, its value would have dropped from almost 2 billion euros in 2018 to just over 470 million euros today, a drop of 79%.
