  • The metropolis of Lyon presented Tuesday the tracks it is studying in order to continue to fight against the coronavirus after deconfinement.
  • In particular, it advocates mass screening and wishes to open alternative places for illnesses, which would like to be isolated outside their homes.

The threat of a second wave of coronavirus not being completely ruled out, the metropolitan area of Lyon presented this Tuesday several avenues of study to fight against the virus, once the deconfinement started. Georges Képénékian, vice-president mandated to produce a report on the subject, made nearly 50 proposals and recommendations to enable "residents to reconnect with economic, social and educational life in compliance with the health rules in force". The report, which is not yet final, will be presented in its final version in June.

Regarding the health component, he recommends a "massive" deployment of screening tests (nasal swab). Around 6,000 are practiced every day in the various laboratories distributed throughout the country, outside the hospital fold. "They will be based on general practitioners, who will be on the front lines. They alone will be required to prescribe them and open an investigation in the entourage as soon as a patient is tested positive, reveals Georges Képénékian. It is essential to identify and test all those, symptomatic or not, who have had close contact with him ”.

Drive, laboratory buses in areas without laboratories

“In order to avoid any appearance of clusters, special attention must be paid to certain audiences: elderly people and people with disabilities at home and in establishments, child protection establishments, Metropolitan France satellites, places of collective housing, people in squats, shantytowns, homes ", he continues therefore recommending" the need to trigger the systematic screening of all symptomatic people and people in contact in these collective living spaces, from the appearance of a first case "

And for areas not covered by local laboratories, the recommended solution would be to develop “drives”, in conjunction with the municipality concerned and the ARS, regional health agency. "They offer the advantage of testing a large number of people, avoiding contact in laboratory premises, and reduce the consumption of protective equipment for professionals performing the tests," added the elected official, however, aware that the quality of these screenings "may nevertheless be less than that obtained during tests carried out in laboratories". The possibility of deploying laboratory buses is also being studied, in conjunction with Sytral, which manages public transport.

Isolation places for future patients

For people who contract the virus and who choose to be placed in isolation outside their homes, the report recommends "alternative" places: vacant social housing, university rooms in Crous residences, hotels, Covid centers. -19 of the Red Cross. The metropolis, for its part, has already made a first estimate and announces that it would thus have 150 places.

"Strict isolation for 14 days from carriers of the virus breaks the chains of transmission," said Georges Képénékian. This isolation can be done at the home of the virus carrier but this will result in the confinement of the entire outbreak for 14 days. Or else in the places proposed which will be made available to it ”.
