A few days before the deconfinement, the SNCF presented this Wednesday a plan to restart its passenger activities providing for a gradual resumption of mainline trains from Friday and a battery of measures aimed at respecting health rules.

"As the deconfinement phases progress, the supply of Voyageur trains will increase, in priority for daily trains", the objective being "a return to normal by the end of June", explained the group in a note d internal information.

Every second seat on sale

From May 11, the number of Ile-de-France suburban trains that will run will be between 50% and 60% of normal. The level will reach for TER between 40% and 50%, and for TGV and Intercités a little more than 30%. The restart will resume for main lines from May 8 with 20% of service and the return of low-cost TGV Ouigo, it was said in the company. Travel will remain limited to 100 km until June 2, and "only travel for professional reasons or compelling reasons will be allowed for longer distances," it was said from the same source.

In TGV and Intercités trains, the company will continue to sell no more than one seat out of two in order to respect the rules of distance. The SNCF plans a whole battery of measures to organize this recovery by respecting the sanitary instructions, starting with the filtering by the police force and the Railway safety at the entrance of the big stations to ensure the respect of the obligation of the wearing a mask in stations and on trains.

Masks and hydroalcoholic gel on sale at stations

Incoming and outgoing flows will be separated as much as possible, while announcements and markings on the ground will guide travelers. Masks and hydroalcoholic gel will gradually be sold in Relay stores and Selecta distributors, and gel distributors installed in major stations. As during the strikes, the SNCF undertakes to publish the list of trains in circulation the day before at 5 p.m., and it will continue to be flexible on exchanges and refunds. It will also display the cleaning frequency at the entrance to each station and on trains.

Technological novelty: the SNCF mobile application must make it possible to know in real time the influx of travelers on trains. SNCF also calls on travelers to "be responsible in (their) mobility and (to) adopt the behaviors that (they) protect and protect others". The company asked them to buy tickets online as much as possible, to find out about train traffic, to favor trips during off-peak hours.
