It was to be the cultural meeting for the start of the school year in Lyon. Unsurprisingly, the Dance Biennial will not be held on the dates originally planned. The event, which was to take place from September 11 to October 2, has been officially postponed to May and June. The organizers had already announced, a few weeks ago, the postponement of the parade, traditionally organized in mid-September.

The Dance Biennale invites you to meet in the spring of 2021 for its 19th edition.
Pending further indications from the Government, the organizing teams have decided to postpone the next edition of the #biennaledelyon.

"To delay too late the decision to maintain or postpone the Biennale de la danse, a major event entirely dedicated to international choreographic creation, would risk putting the programmed artists in very great difficulty and lastingly weakening the economy of the project", explain the organizers to justify their decision, stating that the objective was however to avoid outright the cancellation of the event.

Strong economic risks

“The economic risks were strong. They are linked to numerous uncertainties [concerning the gauges and the methods of reopening theaters and performance halls] which will probably not be lifted before June 2, at the earliest, they continue. In addition, it is obvious that, given the current health situation, the majority of artists, French and foreign, cannot conduct their rehearsals correctly, or even claim to be able to move from one country to another ”.
