We reveal you some essential stops of a paradise that dazzles and to which you always want to return.

The coolest beaches on the planet

If you can only choose one destination in the Riviera, choose Tulum . It offers the most attractive of a tropical destination, but far from overcrowding. It is a fashionable refuge among celebrities , ideal for a complete disconnection with permanent views of the Caribbean Sea. The atmosphere is jungle, respectful with the environment and relaxed, but very chic . Nearby you find archaeological sites and the jungle a few meters from the coast. There is no shortage of restaurants that offer excellent gastronomy such as Arca (with a former Noma chef), Hartwood , La Rosa Negra or Banana, international fashion, local crafts, flirtatious cafes under palapas, fairytale gardens, nightlife and some special accommodations: luxury cabins next to the turquoise waters, because here there are no hotels or vertical buildings.

La Zebra (belonging to Small Luxury Hotels) is highly recommended. Spacious cabanas - some with private pools - rise on the golden sand. You sleep listening to the murmur of the waves, you can watch the sunrise from the bed and even see the turtles spawn on your doorstep. Another excellent option is KAI : a boutique hotel where exclusivity harmonizes with natural beauty. Located on Pescadores beach, it only has eleven villas in a privileged location, next to the imposing Mayan ruins. Its villas are light, elegant and spacious; their cuisine is delicious and at a great price. The best sunset takes place over the elevated nests of Azulik, with 360º panoramic views of the jungle and the Caribbean Sea.

The heaven's Door

Translated into Spanish from the Mayan language Sian Kaan means "door to heaven". And its name does justice to what you will find. Where the Tulum area ends, paradise begins: a protected space classified as a Biosphere Reserve. After two hours crossing 4x4 territories of impenetrable vegetation (there is no asphalt), crossing with a multitude of birds, snakes and even crocodiles in the lagoons, you will reach unforgettable natural pools , coral reefs and crystalline beaches. You have to get to Punta Allen , a small fishing village in a virgin area with hardly any tourists.

The hidden Cozumel

Located in front of Playa del Carmen and permanently connected to the mainland by ferry in fifty minutes, this island is a prominent destination for diving lovers. It is the second coral reef in the world, after the Australian one. Beginning divers should dive into Chankanaab , intermediate divers choose Santa Rosa , the essential dive for advanced divers is Palancar and Punta Sur is a perfect enclave for night diving.

Cozumel Island.

The area of the island facing the Atlantic is very charming. Less traveled, with strong and rough waves, and virgin areas. In addition, along the coast you will find picturesque beach bars, such as Coconuts .

multicolour water

The popularly known as Laguna de Siete Colores extends as a dream scene next to the town of Bacalar. It is a natural pool of crystalline waters that shows the entire color palette of blue: from light blue to emerald, passing through indigo, sapphire or lapis lazuli. These colors are formed by the minerals that make up the soil sediments. Differences in depth also influence, as well as the intensity and reflections of the sun's rays. The ideal plan is to navigate the lagoon and eat fish at Kai Pez, the reference restaurant, located on the shore near the Cocalitos cenote.

Fishermen's shelter

One of the least exploited coastal areas is Mahahual . In a calm and genuine environment, its beaches also offer a multitude of blues. Plus, locals brag about cooking the best lobsters in the Caribbean. Swings in multi-colored hammocks, postcard sunsets and al fresco dining under starry skies complete its appeal. Mahahual is the door to Banco Chinchorro, the enclave that Mexicans choose to practice diving. Its coral atoll is immense, its seabeds are fabulous and it also has sunken centuries-old boats. You have to enjoy the gastronomy of the area with dishes such as chiles stuffed with seafood and pan de cazón.

The pink beach

In Las Coloradas , near the small fishing town of Río Lagartos, there is a completely pink lake. It is located between salt flats and its color is due to a microorganism whose purple membranes give it that hue. Visually the environment is impressive and the photographs that are obtained, surprising. But you can not bathe or there are other attractions in the surroundings. The closest hotels are in Río Lagartos and are modest.

Green gold

You have to leave a few days to visit the neighboring state of Yucatan and get to know its haciendas, a symbol of a glamorous and extinct era, which brought with it the buoyant henequen cultivation industry of the late 19th century -also known as green gold-, these Portentous buildings reached thousands of hectares, had their own transportation systems and even minted coins with the family emblems of the owners. In our days they are being rehabilitated in ultra-luxury accommodation. They are usually located near the colonial city of Mérida. The route of the henequen haciendas deserves a trip in itself, but if you are passing through, we recommend: Temozón Sur, Sotuta de Peón, Santa Rosa de Lima and Xcanatún.
